Every night after all traffic has died down to nothing, I go outside to smoke one last cigarette before I settle off to bed. I live on a rural highway
and the nearest town is 16 miles south of me. There is a single conductor low voltage powerline parallel to the highway. After midnight, it's as
quiet as a church sanctuary on a Tuesday night around here. There is a cell tower about 1/2 mile east of my house and I have a smart meter on my
electrical service. Other than that, there are absolutely no conceivable sources to explain the noise I hear virtually every night.
The noise I hear is hard to describe but it is a low, almost unnoticeable but noticeable, constant, never wavering high pitched noise. I first
imagined it to be like air whistling through a long steel pipe but to be more precise in it's description, I would describe it as like the sound of
an electric motor, maybe with a slightly dry bearing. Air whistling through a pipe would be a significantly lower pitch than what I am hearing.
I have read unsubstantiated reports of radio frequency devices emitting harmful radiation but I don't recall reading about any of these devices
actually producing any audible noises.
These strange noises I hear almost every night intrigue me somewhat and I sure wish I could explain them. Is there anyone here that has ever heard
anything similar to what I am describing here and can explain to me what is making these mystifying noises? I'd sure like to know.
PS: The area where I live can be described as forested lowland completely devoid of any possibility of any underground activity whatsoever.
