Answer: Lots.

I'll just leave this here...I hired a lesbian Electrical Engineer who (I think) identified as a Union Pacific locomotive with Asperger's and had dreams of playing Linebacker for the Green Bay Packers. She was the most awesome Electrical Engineer and employee I've probably ever had! She worked for me for 5-6 years before she decided one day she wanted to move to South Dakota and hang out with some biker chick. (Sad day for me). Her name was Lisel (rhymes with "diesel"), and I think she might have even been able to kick MY ass (and that's no easy feat)!

Now, I don't know how much Lisel knew about sailing ships, but she was about the smartest double "E" I ever ran into, so I'm pretty sure if you gave her the manual on everything there was to know about sailing a ship, and told her there was gonna' be a test in the morning...well, she'd "ace" it. The great thing about Lisel was, because of her Aspergers, she'd tell you, or anyone else, exactly what she thought (which I thoroughly LOVED about this person). If she thought someone was full of sh!t, she would straight up tell them, like point-blank! (Little bit of a management problem there for me, but that's another post). Lisel would have sailed that vessel, even with zero experience, far better than this Capt. Yvonne Gray ever could have; I have absolutely no doubt about it! And fellow lesbian or not, she would gladly jettisoned Capt. Gray right over the side from the very millisecond she detected even a hint of incompetence!

(And I would have laughed my ass off....and then did all the paperwork later).

Is there any proof this "Officer" was promoted through the ranks on genuine qualifications? Or is it all just cheap talk? 😁

Are you sure this isn't more an excuse to bash gay women? Like use any possible example to really say, "any lesbian (or even woman) could only rise to a command position in the military through illgotten DEI benefits and wouldn't be given that command otherwise."

As mentioned earlier by other contributors, the fact that the commanding officer is a gay-lesbian female was clearly not the cause of the crash-but the cause of the hire.
The reason, and why so many companies have scrapped their DEI departments and initiatives is because the sheer stupidity of narrowing the pool of potential hires based on race, sexual orientation or any other irrelevant factor will never work. If you search for the best you would never limit your search to just white people or black people or just gay people- you would search for the best by looking at all people keeping the highest standards as the metric. The whole DEI experiment is a joke. If the hiring authority for, lets say the US Secret Service said they are making hiring women their top priority, do you think that criteria is going to find the best possible agent? What if they said a black lesbian? What if, in the name of DEI they said "we need more transgender hispanics so we are going to focus on that", would that criteria neccessarily yield the best candidate available? You do know Biden selected his supreme court justice by saying-"I'm gonna get the most qualified black women". Are you ok with that? DEI has been exposed!

Jen Psaki leaving White House, Biden names 1st Black, openly gay press secretary to replace her

woohoo, progress. ugh-the list goes on

it's possible she was put in that position BECAUSE she was an openly gay person. I believe the more boxes you tick, you the more valuable you are. (thus the DEI) aspect. I can see taking exception to ragging on her for being gay, that's kind of 1970'ish, but why anyone would want a person running something that others lives hang in the balance of, and that person isn't qualified, but does make the books look better, baffles me. It's not how things work. This failed experiment is reaching it's end. Farwell to clown world.

Lawyers are loving the whole DEI thing. Why? Because it opens lawsuits for all victims, both hires who have been deliberately setup for failure by not being qualified by merits, and victims who were deliberately bypassed because they were not of a specific group, yet were qualified by merits. Big damage either way!! 😄 The joke's on the insurance companies that'll be paying off the claims.

that's not how things work in the real world, but in places like New Zealand (and the Democrat party) 'real world' efficiency is a minor factor. they are happy with mediocre results if they can check the boxes. shows their priorities.

I'm guessing there's a group of administrators in Christchurch that don't care about the loss of the ship as long as they can claim diversity

It is Wellington actually, The whole city is "Woke" and if the administration as it was under the labor gov. Pushed diversity all the promotions would have required you to at least wear a rainbow tie , NZ is a small country and is reliant on looking right as far as the money men are concerned. So it tends to just follow geopolitical trends. Out in the country it is just the same as it always was.

...but why anyone would want a person running something that others lives hang in the balance of, and that person isn't qualified,... (??)

This is a good question, the answer to which is even more disturbing.

The Kiwi Navy figured this was a short, light tonnage, research ship. So, what could possibly go wrong? In their "woke" minds, this was a win-win, giving an unqualified person command of this 'small' boat. How could they possibly F*** that up, right? Heck, I could drive a boat like that, and I don't know sh!t. That was the Kiwi logic too...there's no way this person could fark this assignment up, and it would look great on the DEI radar.

Only one problem...she DID fork it up. In fact, she did about everything possible she could do wrong as commander!. She could have grounded the ship straight in (and saved it), but her woke / environmentalist sensibilties told her "No!", so instead she stumbled around allowing the ship to founder, catch fire and sink. The net result was 10x worse than if she just would have ordered hard aport and full power to the beach. Sure, she was going to lose her command, but why F*** everything else up in the process??? AND...therein lies the problem.

It's called "accountability". You see, that's what's wrong with "woke" and DEI...there's no accountability. Any competent Naval officer would have saved the crew first, and saved the vessel next. She did neither. Why? Because she knew the one thing more important than anything else was...DEI, and the fact she'd never be held accountable, regardless of what she did.

Frankly, it's flipping disgusting! BUT...there's one good thing to come of this...at least it wasn't a Destroyer or heavy Cruiser. So maybe, next time...there won't be a "next time".
