National Guard on Standby in Many States as America Faces Tense Election Day
Hundreds of National Guardsmen from 18 states and Washington, D.C., have been activated or are on standby on the eve of the U.S. presidential election, according to a defense official.
The official told Military.com that Alabama, Arizona, Delaware, Iowa, Illinois, North Carolina, New Mexico, Wisconsin and Washington state have all activated small numbers of National Guard troops on state orders, around 126 service members in total.
Additionally, Guardsmen from Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, West Virginia and Washington, D.C., are also on standby. Oregon has some Guardsmen activated as well as on standby.
Police, Guard units prep for Election Day violence
National Guard units in several states and local law enforcement agencies are on alert or standby this week as authorities prepare for any violence by extremist groups upset about the election results.
Why it matters: Right-wing groups backing former President Trump have been urging those on platforms such as Telegram to watch the polls and dispute results unfavorable to Trump, causing fears of chaos at polling sites.
State of play: Voting locations in cities and rural areas are getting security upgrades, sometimes with concrete barriers, extra fencing and locked doors.
About 24 states say they'll send National Guard troops to DC for vote certification and inauguration
More than two dozen states have indicated they would be willing to send National Guard troops to Washington if requested in the weeks following the presidential election and in the runup to the inauguration, Guard officials said Monday.
The District of Columbia has not yet made any formal requests for Guard troops, but officials across the government have been preparing for the possibility that the U.S. Capitol could once again be rocked by violence around the certification of the election by Congress on Jan. 6 and the inauguration two weeks later.
About 25,000 Guard troops from around the country flooded into Washington in the days after the deadly Jan. 6, 2021, riot, when thousands of supporters of then-President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol in an effort to prevent Congress from certifying Joe Biden's win.

I don't know why they would activate the NG. It's not like the Left will actually let them enforce the law. This is all for show and so the Democrats can say there's a "threat to Democracy".
