According to a report from Bloomberg news today, Boeing has now dismantled its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) division, with its head leaving the company.

Staff from Boeing’s DEI office will be combined with another human resources team focused on talent and employee experience, according to people familiar with the matter. Sara Liang Bowen, a Boeing vice president who led the now-defunct department, left the company on Thursday. [emphasis mine]

The highlighted phrase above tells us all we need to know. The focus under Boeing’s new CEO Kelly Ortberg will be “talent and employee experience,” not skin color or gender.

Boeing finally shuts down its DEI division

After millions of dollars in losses and dozens of embarrassing incidents, looks like Boeing has finally seen how to at least attempt some recovery and save faith.

Does anybody know how many deaths this policy may have caused? ☠️

This party is over and a new one starts.

Odd the person in charge has quit the company 😁

What will eventually happen to the employees that have been improperly placed in key positions?

Who will oversee them now?

The pogo stick of success is now becoming an anchor.

Never in my life not even once…when flying in plane have a thought to myself. Geee I really hope the team who designed this was filled with x colour or y gender.

It’s always hay I hope the people were very skilled in aerospace engineering with broad range of skills and experience.

What kind of racist person would demand that more people of a certain skin colour be hired. Terrible really.

Yes, and Boeing in their infinite wisdom, assumed their decades old engineering feats would remain untouched. Nobody ever thought the DEI program would crack the designs and create flaws that could kill! 🤣🤣

This was all predicted that DEI would be phased out by the end of the year. Low n behold…..they were right.

If emphasis is placed on skills and qualifications rather than race, ethnicity, or gender, then there would be no tolerance for anything that could compromise the quality of output, particularly exceptions made for emotional reasons. Principles of integrity and intelligence should always be an unwavering constant within any business since they are essential for success. It's ridiculous to sacrifice standards and quality for 'feelz'.

The education system has so corrupted it's duty to our students by adopting an 'everyone gets a trophy' mentality, stifling students' motivation to excel which undermines a true education and success. Replacing high academic standards and expectations with low to mediocre degrees hurts everyone and benefits no one.

It will be a long ride out of this nightmare.

Its my dream for this blemish on American history to be well documented in future school textbooks.

Puget Sounder here. I didn't work for B but know so many who do/did.
Any who do or did, please post!

Way before DEI Boeing started down the tubes since the 1997 McD 'merger' when they 'bought' McD by giving a controlling interest on the Board, to the same McD men who had run McD into the ground by just updating old planes rather than build a new one. Does 'Max' ring a bell? The problem is small-minded bean counters who have replaced an engineering culture of building great airplanes. They have not built a new plane in so losing they are in danger of losing the tribal knowledge who did.
A damn shame.

My father worked at McD back through the 60's, 70's, and 80's. Something started happening in the late 80's where it went from a job he loved and was proud of to one where he was almost always aggravated. He was a Quality Control guy. The only thing I remember was he said when the "old man" died the place just changed for the worse. Plus I remember him complaining that is when they were already hiring unqualified people and setting them up in positions they did not deserve. It seemed that even back then they had a starting push in hiring females and minorities and ignoring their bad performance. That is not to say that women and minorities are not capable of said jobs, just that he noticed if they messed up it didn't seem to affect their career path.

More than likely the board room was stacked with a bunch of east coasters high on their own supply of BS. I should research to confirm.

I want to know who is writing the script, or program. This is insanity.

Pilgrim, I hate to break it to you, but the people in positions to write and direct this script aren’t the sorts who can BE fired. There is a point, somewhere along the line, where a person no longer works FOR anyone else. Whatever money they have is likely just a little perk to go along with the unfathomable power that is wielded to meet the ends of whatever purpose these people might have.

Personally, I’d have not a care in the world one way or another if they could play their game and leave the rest of us alone to play ours. Unfortunately, that doesn’t appear to be in the rule book so here we are.
