Are we all pariahs? Us, people who post in a forum.

I went grocery shopping this last Monday.
The cashier was quite friendly, she even was taking items out of the cart and putting them on the belt. Quite unusual!

Then she asked me how my day had been going so far.

So I replied: "Oh, pretty good so far, I'll probably just be posting on a forum the rest of the day."

The wall went up. The temperature dropped a few degrees (metaphorically speaking). Big mistake it seems.

Do we all have such a bad reputation? Must we keep our terrible past time secret? Should we feel shame?

I don't know about the rest of you, but I think I won't be mentioning it to people in real life.

Note: That actually was the first time I mentioned it to a total stranger.

Naw you're good. She probably just juggled in her mind whether she should admit her own online activities to you or if that'd be too weird and taboo.

Did she look like she still collects Beanie Babies?

They may have assumed you were a WEF, WHO or other governmental or 'think tank' contributor.

Some people see computers as the Devil's work, meaning they are threatened by even the word as it reflects upon their ignorance and inability to allow that others may enjoy or benefit from computers while they recoil in defense. I have a brother like that, but he has no problem having his partner do his "dirty work" of using her laptop to research his interests.

Maybe it was simply that she figured you, like most people nowadays, where going to post about every single thing that happened to you that day, including your interaction with her.

So, you know, she shut up, so she didn't "insult" you or give you any ammo.
(not saying you would, but look at some of these stupid people today)

I don't blame her a bit if that was why.
Some people need to get a life, instead of creating one online.

If she was young enough she probably didn’t even know what forums are and went quite so she wouldn’t sound stupid.

Bring it up if it fits the conversation, but always present the caveat that it's not '''Nude Africa'' you are posting in.

Yeah!

And look what I just did

I get bored easily. The forum gives me ideas of things to look up. Sort of stimulating.

Makes one think: "I should be very careful about what I post. It could cause embarrassment down the road."

Thank you all for responding. Stars all around!!!

I have known of a few dead beat, free loading, 24/7 computer gamers,
sitting on the couch,
while there's a woman paying rent,
working,
and fixing meals.

Maybe she knows of someone like that who is forum posting 24/7.

---------
But in my defense:

I pay rent. I was actually at the store shopping, not sitting on a couch. I was spending my own money.

LOL I meant more like the (I call) crazy people that have to post pictures of their lunches, or the a holes that would rather video an accident than actually help people.

All for the likes and followers you know?

I thought that was TikTokkers.

A long time ago, an associate of mine introduced me to his girlfriend over the phone. She got my email address from me.

In no time, 7 or 8 emails from her were showing up each day.

Guess what they were?

Mostly ads that she thought were worth sharing.

No way. Unless you name dropped ATS, theres no telling what site you were on. Could have been a forum for helping needy children, is that pariah worthy? Boo potentially judgemental people boo!

I do have a friend that says every time i mention ATS "uh oh, someones been down the rabbit hole. You come up for air?", so if you had mentioned ATS by name, be glad she still rung up your stuff! Lol Otherwise, shame shame, and not on you.

I certainly don't intend to shame anyone, especially not the cashier.

She ranks 10 out of 10 for job performance.
I use these reusable fabric bags with sturdy handles. She's the only cashier who has gone to the effort of taking the bags out of the cart and bagging them herself.

Her reaction was involuntary. Verbally, she wished me a nice day.

Now I recall a book I read in the '70s entitled I'm OK-You're OK.

Now I'm thinking, maybe I shouldn't tell strangers what my plans are for the day.
