Cats rule, dogs drool!

www.yahoo.com...

A California family was surprised when their beloved cat Rayne Beau, who had vanished on a trip to Yellowstone National Park, somehow trekked around 800 miles back toward home before being found.

The couple, Susanne and Benny Anguiano, told KSBW in Salinas that they had taken their cats on previous trips, but that this time, something scared Rayne Beau and he ran off into the forest in early June.

The Anguianos spent their days searching for Rayne Beau but ultimately had to make the decision to return home without him.

I couldn't survive one side of Yellowstone to the other side of Yellowstone, even with a smartphone.

This cat did this:

Its amazing that this cat did this. That's a trek through the basin and range. Harshest terrain in the Western US. Through Idaho, Nevada, and across the Sierra Nevada Mountains. All while hunting (enough), avoiding bears, wolves, coyotes, and every predator in between.

A determined cat before and after.

Man. What a guru of a furson! Hope he spends the rest of his days showing his bumhole to his owners whilst standing on their newspaper (or dinner plate)

It’s how cats let you know they care 🤷🏽‍♂️

Taking cats along for the trip is weird, if you ask me... But it's quite impressive from the cat to find her way back.
Once we moved across the city and the cat went back to our old place crossing the whole city a Couple of times...

I've always wondered what cats use to navigate such distances?

I had a dog that would ride with us like a king. He was born for it. I just felt like he could find us like that if something ever happened. He knew when we were getting close to home. But to do it from Yellowstone back to our house, I would never remotely expect such. He would do an ear piecing screech to get his way past animals like coyotes in our backyard so Ifelt he could survive after seeing animals jump backwards when he was agitated.

Time to for that Kitty to fatten back up. Nice story!

Sounds reasonable. I know that's how I'd do it.

There isn't many possibilities... Google map or maybe magnetic fields.

I just thought that's a aviary thing and not a feline thing...

WOW! JUST WOW!

///////////
Warning personal anecdote
//////////

It was in September of 1993 that I was moving from Southern Kern County, CA to [ redacted ], WA, close to the Northern border. I had my grey tom cat Caliber with me.

It was about 3 am as I was headed North along the Hood Canal, up highway 101, when the gas tank was almost empty. The last 2 gas stations I had passed were closed for the night. So I pulled over to wait a few hours for gas stations to open. I opened the door for some reason and Caliber jumped out. I called to him for a while. It took about two hours for him to get back in the car.

After reading the story you posted, I wonder:

Did he attempt to "go back home?" Did he start out heading South but then thought "Wait! Home: is it back there or is it just maybe with that guy in the car. We have been buds for a while, oh what the heck! That guy is sure closer to get to."

We will never know what Caliber was thinking before he jumped back into the car. He did acclimate to his new home in Washington just fine.

I'm glad the cat is home.

I wonder, though, it it had some help along the way.

Crossing sparse, rough terrain without much to eat or drink is very impressive ... cats are tough.

But what I question is crossing rivers. Had to be some along the way, even if they were just fast moving streams with enough depth. Yeah, bridges ... but those have their own hazards like the traffic that uses them.

Cheers
