Yes, if their anticipated income is under $22,000 for 2025, they will have either a $0 or a $250 annual deductible, just like Americans.

My point was, the young Harris/Walz supporters may not grasp how taxing unrealized gains affects them.

Ordinary blue collar workers need to have retirement accounts because they can't just put in their time and get a pension.

Those retirement accounts depend on capital gains in order to stay ahead of inflation.

Liberal administrations and spending policies are associated with high inflation.

TRUE. Younger people have no clue about unrealized capital gains and how the trickle-down effect of taxing them will hurt their quality of life at some point. Any time you hurt those who take care of your finances (employers, investment mangers, banks, etc..) those people will ensure you share in the pain. Fact of life.

I'm sorry but you missed again.

The young people themselves will need to save for retirement.

If they don't invest the money in their retirement accounts, inflation will make its value shrink away to a fraction of what it was worth.

Taxing unrealized gains means it will be more difficult to keep up with inflation.

Young people, don't worry about the investment part. The company handling your employer's retirement account will make it easy for you. Unless you elect someone that wants to tax away your gains. You'll need those gains to retire.

The way it is now, the gains are taxed, but only once when you cash in (or when you first invest, depending on what kind of individual retirement account you choose,) not every year or quarter that the company you've invested in makes a profit. Companies' fortunes usually go up and down.

If government has more money, they'll spend more, and that will lead to more inflation. Inflation is what will wipe away your ability to save for retirement, which is what makes it necessary to invest for retirement.
