And Putin's greatest ally, Lukashenko from Belarus, only a few days ago declared there was nothing more to fight for in Ukraine, and that the war was over.

Of course, it is not over until Ukraine is fully liberated, but what does it mean that he said that so suddenly?

It means that Putin has asked Lukashenko to send his troops east across the border, and to help reinforce Russia's southern border. All of these cities Ukraine is taking are very close to Belarus, and it would make sense that they help out; it would not take much for them to deploy across their border and help Putin out.

Only they haven't yet. No soldiers from Belarus have crossed over and helped the Russians. And Lukashenko claiming the war was over and there was nothing to fight for was a desperate plea to keep him out of this crap. It's one thing to ask him to store some nuclear weapons in his country, but another to ask him to send his young to die in Russia, likely hundreds of them per day. Lukashenko knows this would be the end of his regime. He and his family would be dragged out into the streets.

But Putin is probably fuming, he needs help.

"But Putin is probably fuming, he needs help."

Probably more than he's getting from his supporters on here?

Remind me which nation on Earth has 100% blind loyalty to its leaders?? it certainly is not the case in Europe or North and South America, or Africa.

That's not loyalty, that's fear.

People fear dictators that imprison them, throw them off of buildings, poison and torture them.

But they only fear Putin because they thought he was strong. And what happens to the strongman once everyone figures out just how weak they really are?

ahh so the right to speak openly in dissent of a government by some of its elite equates to showing just how weak a leader is by not killing them off, sending them to prison, or disappearance? This means the entire western civilization is composed of weak leaders, is that correct? That is pretty much exactly what you are saying, that dissenting opinions by the public means the leadership is weak?

Should the White House begin imprisoning all the conservatives, Elon Musk, and all of us who dissent against the policies here? This is the equivelancy you are drawing, that the right to openly dissent against a leader is a sign of the leaders weakness, and not simply just humans expressing their right to speech??

So tell me which is it, do the Russians suddenly have free speech rights with their open dissenting? Or is dissenting against any leader a sign of weakness by leader, and western civilization is run by weak leaders?

I just trying to properly understand the rhetoric here without the rhetoric contradicting itself. Give me a hand will you?

No, it shows that Putin who usually throws these people out off windows, poisons them or sends them off to gulags is finally losing his totalitarian grip on Russia.

In Russia calling it a "war" is a criminal offense, criticizing the war is treason, etc.

Dissent is cracked down on, hard.

So this is indeed significant.

More reports are coming in that Novohrodivka is falling rapidly. One of the last towns outside of Pokrovsk. Also confirmed on other maps such as “ISW” etc

The Russian invasion army needed three days to capture most of the 14.000 inhabitants town #Novohrodivka, 10 km S-E of Pokrovsk, without a single armored vehicle and leaving the infrastructure mostly intact.

More reports coming in over the weekend.

On Saturday, soldiers also seem to have moved in on the southeastern outskirts of Novohrodivka, southeast of Pokrovsk, seizing the Novohrodivka City Council in the center of the town and Krasnyi Yar, east of Pokrovsk

This is according to the ISW, which has cited geolocated footage and Russian militarybloggers.

Newsweek has contacted the Ukrainian and Russian Departments of Defense, via email, for confirmation and comment.

Russian Forces Capture Kostiantynivka Village in Ukraine's Donetsk

A video released on social media on Aug. 27 showed soldiers placing a Russian flag on a lamp post in the village of Kostiantynivka in Ukraine's Donetsk region.

According to the video, the Russian forces are closing in on the strategically important Ukrainian city of Pokrovsk, prompting some residents to evacuate for fear it will fall in the coming weeks.

Reuters was able to confirm the location as the village of Kostiantynivka in the Donetsk Region, which is about 47 km southeast of Pokrovsk, by the buildings, river, road layout, and trees which match satellite imagery. The date when the video was taken could not be independently verified. However official reports from Ukraine confirm there are Russian heavy assaults in the area near Pokrovsk.

The video was filmed at Kostyantynivka village, 47km (29 miles) southeast of Pokrovsk. This is not to be confused with Kostyantynivka town which is 47km (29 miles) northeast of Pokrovsk.
