This relates to the swamp gas theories...

Two friends of mine, Josh and Matt, who went to Nansmond River HS at the time, were walking in the field that leads to the base (they live in the neighborhood directly across the farmer's field on King's Highway from the base). It was late (probably after midnight knwoing them) and they'd stopped against the treeline so Josh could get his water bottle out of his backpack. The ground lit up and Matt said "HOLY CRAP... did you see that?" Josh only saw the light on the ground since he was bent over his pack searching for his water. Matt said he saw a light shoot out of the sky, hover in the middle of the field, dip down into the grasses and then shoot back up into the sky (total time it was visible according to them was under 5 sec.) Matt described the light as being several feet across (used his hands to show me... about three feet I guess) and was a bright piercing blue. Since I am interested in paranormal stuff, I interigated them about other things about the event. They said there were no sounds emmited from the light, no vibrations, no reported loss of time (they didn't think to check I guess), and no marks in the area of the field Matt said it dipped down into. Matt did say he made Josh wait a few minutes to continue walking in the dark because the light had 'blinded' him (like when you look at a bright lightbulb).

So, yes, I defineatly know this area is at least prone to sightings of the paranormal, whether they are true or not, I can't really say, but these two are some of my best friends. I haven't known them to lie about stuff like that... so I guess I believe them.

I have heard of swamp gas doing some fairly odd things but it would be very difficult (I think) to pass off a flying, blinding, blue orb as simply swamp gas. If that is the explanation it must be some very magical gas.

Is it possible that the two are related? That is the creature and the orb. I do not believe that the creature is intelligent. I derive this opinion from the was it interacted with your truck. It is my belief that an intelligent creature would have studied your truck in a more docile manner i.e. not rocking your truck. Therefor if the orb and the creature are in anyway related I conclude the orb must be the brains of the operation. Catch the orb and he can lead us to the creature, I suggest pitchforks and torches for this endeavor.
