Hackers may have stolen the Social Security numbers of every American from National Public Data

Hackers may have leaked the Social Security Numbers of every American

nearly 3 billion records stolen from a prominent data broker, much of the information appears to have been leaked on a forum. According to Bleeping Computer, the data dump includes 2.7 billion records of personal info for people in the US, such as names, Social Security Numbers, potential aliases and all physical addresses they are known to have lived at.

Greaaaaat…

Also going to affect us in more ways than people trying to impersonate and open accounts in our names.

Election security is now cooked.

Every medical file they ask for last 4 of our SS.

This is bad.

I think most Americans SS#s were leaked in the Equifax data breach.

This is still horrible, but it should remind everyone to have 2FA on every service you can. And you can even lock your credit lines so they have to call you before something gets approved.

If they get into bank accounts, we're all SCREWED (except those who keep cash in the mattress).

This will just be another CBDC bullet point.

Social Security numbers weren't meant to be used the way that they are, yet they are tied to EVERYTHING. PRIVACY ACT be damned.

If this is legit, it's going to get incredibly wild real quick. Every scumbag on the planet is going to do back strokes in that data! I wonder what's next on the "Wild World of Reports"...

Pandora's Box just got obliterated. (if legit)

Thought provoking math, however I think the key word is "records", specifically the plurality of the term.

There's a difference between "records" and "social security numbers". Of course there are not 2.9 billion social security numbers, but 2.9 billion records? There's probably more than that by far.
