Daily Beast Guts 70 Percent Of Unionized Staffers

FIRST we have the Southern Poverty Law Center laying off 25% of it's employees...and NOW we see the Left-leaning news outlet, 'The Daily Beast', is preparing for major layoffs after gutting 70% of it's editorial team.

The Daily Beast has been hemorrhaging money and audience for years...and the chickens are now finally coming home to roost.

A new report from The Wrap says leftist media outlet The Daily Beast is "gutting its senior editorial team after implementing voluntary buyouts last month, with nearly 70% of unionized staffers leaving the outlet."

According to people with direct knowledge of the situation, some of the senior staffers taking buyouts include reporter Justin Baragona, political investigations reporter Jose Pagliery, senior national reporter Pilar Melendez, senior reporter Emily Shugerman, and many others. About 25 unionized staffers received the buyouts, which equates to about 70% of unionized staffers.

The people expect upcoming layoffs later this month to impact non-union editorial staffers.

"We're currently watching the collapse of The Beast," one person told TheWrap, adding, "There is no doubt the site won't be able to recover from this."

That's been a theme of 2024 so far.

The Los Angeles Times, NBC News and MSNBC, Sports Illustrated, Time, Business Insider, Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, CBS News, and Paramount. That was just January.

We really don't need to insert another left v. right narrative on this one. This media downturn is a rather ambivalent event. There's enough of those anyway.

I think this greater media exodus is lack of trust across the board and supplanting social media as a source of news.

You see the effect here. Person goes on ConservativeEchoChamber.com and selectively phrases the already bias article, further exaggerating the intended vitriol and making it "viral". This then circumvents a need for the mainstream news that is now cutting staff.

It works the same way with left-leaning social media. Huffington Post, Vox, and Slate are like gospel truth. But only really need a few people to share it. The many more who like it are negligible to profit unless they click the link or subscribe through any paywalls.

Your word salad against right leaning sources is laughable. All I will say is NY Post and Hunters laptop!!! The denial is still all there like in the beginning, except that laptop was verified unaltered by FBI forensics. Too many left leaning media has proved to be propaganda arms of the democrats. Being so unapologetic about it kinda hammers the point home even further. The lack of actual reporting in serious stories even more so.

one thing that hurts leftist media is the amount of competition. if you want leftist news there are dozens of sources, including the media establishment. we have twenty or thirty media outlets all spouting the same leftist propaganda/news.

personally I wish some outlets would put more resources into international news but apparently the suits are satisfied with staying in Washington and trashing Trump.

Fox as a whole is $7B in debt. No wonder there's a fox news alert every 5 minutes, gotta keep sensationalism up to keep the lights on.

Degradation33 is correct. Lack of trust and the dying cable medium is showing losses for news media across the board.

Why spend so much money on conventional news outlets for a bigger national audience, when you can have an algorithm deliver the news directly to the consumer. News tailored to their preferences. News people want to hear.

Old people watch the news.

Soros will never run out of money. If you look at some of the richest people on the planet who insert themselves in politics they tend for the mjor part to be ultra liberal-or RHINO. (McCain? McConnell?) And most of the wealthy politicians who climb the ladder at breakneck speed o from middle class to multi-millionaire in a decade or less.
A book or two for money laundering, insider trading and the very lucritive information/brand name selling.
