Yeah, that Vietnam vet (Russell Casse) is driving the motorhome that Hiller comes up to, and he consults a map and says he doesn't see anything there. Hiller tells him, oh it's there.
Then when they get to Area 51 the MPs try to stop them, demanding clearance or something, and Hiller shows them the alien and threatens to leave it with them if they won't let him in!
Then you have Brent Spiner, who played Data in the Star Trek TNG series as that mad-scientist type....
I loved the effects, the retro design, score, the sound fx were amazing - Spielberg is the master of creating atmosphere with sound. I liked that it stayed true to some elements of the book. But here is what I didn't like.
1. The aliens were 95% the SAME design as in Independence Day. What gives? Think anyone wouldn't notice?
Arguments can be made for alot of other stuff too, but the premise of the whole story from the book: (germs kill the aliens) - I always liked. Simplicity. Alot better than an apple laptop that happens to be compatible with alien technology and some drunk cropduster. Only the aliens being undone in Signs by a baseball bat and a glass of water was more hilarious.
