The Feditary is the nickname for the Federal Military of Outer Space, an organization created a few centuries from now.

The Feditary is engaged in a multi-century war with a race of beings based on a system of threes called Tripidions.

The Feditary has a complex rank structure which will be explained below as briefly as possible.

The Feditary has three armed forces; the Defense Force, the Space Force, and Fleet Command.
The Defense Force is like the US Army and the US Marine Corps combined. The Space Force is like the outer space version of the US Air Force. Fleet Command is like the outer space version of the US Navy. Fleet Command has oversight over the Defense Force and the Space Force.

All three branches work together within the Joint Support Academy. All personnel begin their military careers in the Joint Support Academy before testing into the Defense Force, the Space Force, or Fleet Command.

Above them is an astute governmental wing called the Feditary Council of War. Above the Council of War are the Lord ranks.

Delisted personnel are people who are deceased and/or people in zeros (prison cells).

Unlisted are all non-military civilians who live on Feditary ships.

Listed are non-military personnel who are directly related to the Feditary via a spouse, father, mother, son, or daughter. These people get a monthly staple due to their loved one being in the Feditary. The higher the relative's rank, the higher the staple. Multiple relatives in the Feditary equate t multiple staples.

Listed personnel are also Feditary members with a pay grade of A or B. Both pay grades are managed by the Joint Support Academy.

Enlisted personnel serve in the Defense Force, Space Force, or Fleet Command. All Enlisted personnel have completed their required tracks for A and B. Fleet Command expects the vast majority of their enlisted personnel to become officers before they retire. The Space Force expects at least half of their enlisted personnel to become officers before they retire.

Enlisted is also the Cadet wing of the Joint Support Academy. They have a pay grade of C. Personnel can be Warrant Officers first or Cadets first.

Warrant personnel (pay grade of W) are Warrant Officers who have completed the E-4 pay grade rank in their respected Enlistd branch of service. The Warrant Officer is entirely optional however, it is also highly recommended to those who are offered the opportunity.

After graduating from Cadet training (minimum of 4 years of training), cadets become Officers in the Defense Force, Space Force, or Fleet Command. Later in their career, they may become Flag Offices (FO) and still later, Headquarter Officers (HQO).

This is totally awesome. Is there a Psychological Operations branch, or unit?

Also, you have a terrific amount of redundancy built in to this schema, except for the defense force E-5 ranks. Are those guys simply more autonomous, or was that an oversight.

Also interested in the civilians aboard ship, and the "zeros". Couldn't the zeroes be used (occasionally) as a sort of resource for "Dirty Dozen" type units?

PsychOps is run by the Council of War. The foot soldiers who do the dirty work are Warrant Officers. I haven't put those in here yet.

I am still building the ranks. I have not yet consulted with anyone who has done serious time in the military to go over my futuristic military system. I'll do that later down the road.

Since everyone in the Feditary lives on a spaceship, families and civilians travel together. When the ships run into trouble, they quickly warp away to safety. Because the Feditary and the Trpidions travel faster than light using different types of technology, the Tripidions are not able to "follow" Feditary ships traveling at light speed. I get into all of this within the story.

Zeros are living "coins" (quarters) for prisoners doing life sentences and who are on death row. They are also for prison slaves. Slaves are allowed to leave their zero if they are willing to be obedient as they do labor.

A zero is about 10 feet X 10 feet It has a bed, toilet, sink, table, and chair.

A penny is slightly larger and is occupied by A-class personnel not living in bunk rooms.

Thanks for replying! I'll type more about the ranks in the nxt day or two.
