The former US ambassador to Bolivia was sentenced to 15 years in prison on Friday after admitting to a decades-long campaign of spying on the US government for communist Cuba.
Miami-based US District Judge Beth Bloom accepted Victor Manuel Rocha’s guilty plea on two counts, including acting as an agent of a foreign government, before handing down his decade-and-a-half-long sentence and a $500,000 fine, the maximum penalty allowed.

what if a whole family was corrupted by one of our adversaries and then one of them got in a position of great power? I bet that would be a windfall for that nation.

You have a former ambassador with plenty of connections spying on the US for another country, in this case Cuba, and going undetected or under the radar for many many years. I wonder how many others like him are doing exactly the same work for foreign adversaries and the same is true for foreign ambassadors and diplomats who spy against their own countries.

This because our Intelligence Agencies, and Federal Law Enforcement, are too busy spying on U.S. Citizens to find all the real spies in the United States.

What if a US billionaire real estate developer and his family cultivated money laundering business relationships with the Russian Mafia from the 1980s on? What if that billionaire went on to cultivate a personal relationship with the authoritarian leader of Russia and his fellow kleptocrats? What if that Russian authoritarian leader used his military intelligence organization to help sway public opinion in the US to help get that billionaire elected to POTUS? What if that POTUS invited Russian diplomats into the Oval office as soon as he took office and shared sensitive foreign intelligence information obtained from one of our closest allies with them? What if that billionaire hired his son-in-law to be a foreign policy assistant and tried to get a high level security clearance for him, only to be told by the Director of National Intelligence that they couldn’t do that, because the son-in-law could not pass the background investigation? What if the POTUS assigned his son-in-law the job of negotiating with a foreign power to give them US nuclear technology and the POTUS did secretly give away that nuclear technology without notifying Congress. What if that foreign power gave the son-in-law a 2 billion dollar sweetheart loan after the son-in-law left office? What if the POTUS deliberately took hundreds of classified documents with him on the day he left office, refused to give them all back, hid them, lied about having them, said he could do anything he wanted with them, and revealed information from them to visitors to his beach club?
A terrifying prospect, indeed.
