Can anyone explain what's behind the explosive expansion of Indian casinos? Here in CA they're everywhere and multiplying like jackrabbits.
My Daughter-in-law works as a black jack dealer at an Indian casino in Temecula CA. She says it is "backed by Harrahhs." What exactly does that imply? Are Indian casinos Mafia controlled too? Does anyone know the inside story?
I do know my Daughter-in-law makes a minimum of $1,000 a week in tips and pays virtually no taxes. On a good week she may make as much as $5,000 in tips. Her Mother who is one half Indian receives $3,000 to $5,000 a month income from her tribes casino, simply for being "of the blood." Lets not forget her $250 food voucher and $500 a month Costco credit. She also receives furniture and clothing vouchers. All this for a woman who's children are grownup and gone. She loves to boast , "I've never worked a day in my life and I never will." For someone like myself who's worked since she was twelve, raised four kids and never got any thing for free in her life, I find this disgusting! OK so I'm jealous. But I still want to know what's going on?

I don't know exactly who's behind this exactly, if there is a particular group or family involved, but Native Casinos have been around for quite some time... at least since the '80s and they have jsut been progressing since then. I guess that they (the Native casino owners) have just found a formula that works well... just as they did with the Indian tobacco here in Canada. Even if the tobacco trade is illigal outside of reserves, the black market for it is generating #loads of money.... which mostly goes into the pockets of small producers and resellers instead of greedy billionnaires.

I guess the Natives have understood quickly what Jews have been doing for centuries... If the majority is oppressing you, just hack your way into their society and survive by making profit with them! Trying to overtake the economy is the only way for a minority to gain the respect and the power that was taken from them, that's all.

Gambling is an ancient part of the culture of sovereign Native American Nations. As an oppressed and economically disenfranchised people, we are reaching into our cultural roots for a way to co-exist in the modern world without stripmining, drilling or clearcuttting our lands.

Native nations are not 'controlled' by anybody. Ask the Army.

You should love your daughter and be thankful Creator is providing well for her.

For damn's sake, read the post. She's not asking if the NATIONS are controlled, but the CASINOS.

The best way to find out what is going on is to go over there and have some fun.

In the hunting and fishing days, when someone had more than they could consume, or less than they needed, they went over to the round house and played the hand game. Because of the laws of statistics, goods became equitably redistributed over time, ensuring the survival of the less fortunate. Sometimes we just give stuff away. Or trade something for something else. I think you would enjoy a visit over there with your daughter's people. Enjoy some good energy. Nice place.

Contempt? I don't think so.

Pehaps you don't know contempt, hence you can't recognise it.

Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA)

The (IGRA) in 1988 gave Native American governments the right to establish and run gaming facilities on Indian land anywhere within the United States. They act as seperate sovereign nations (Those which are federally recognized) within the United States, an example would be the Choctaw very successful thoughout SE Oklahoma now spreading casinos into Lousinanna. Tribes use gaming revenue to fund projects that help their people, as mandated by the (IGRA) of 1988.

Full Text Here

Tribal Gaming Ordinances, 25 U.S.C. 2710 [SEC. 11]

Use of Net Revenues

(B) net revenues from any tribal gaming are not to be used for purposes other than--

(i) to fund tribal government operations or programs;
(ii) to provide for the general welfare of the Indian tribe and its members;
(iii) to promote tribal economic development;
(iv) to donate to charitable organizations; or
(v) to help fund operations of local government agencies;

-------

Profit motive for outside 'investors' is on the front end financial and expansionary loans, in the managment contracts or both (which would imply a 'backing'). 'Peripheral' investment would be a good area to look locally for any 'associations'. Economic impact studies completed by your state/local government or universities would help to further clarify some questions you pose.

I have to disagree with part of your statement. If a minority would quit playing the "pity party game" and get off their collective butt and go to school and get some higher education they might just not be a minority anymore. Furthermore, if you lead the horse to the water and it will not drink, they shall die from thirst.

Why Indian Casinos do so well...

There are two main reasons why they do well.

1) NO TAX. Every cent they make is profit, unlike Casinos on normal land, where you have to pay a property tax, a gambling liscense fee, plus a tax of about 40 cents on the dollar on all profit.

2) NO COMPITITION. Indian casinos do well because they are allowed to build them where no one else can. In california, you can't build a casino unless you are doing it on a reservation. The same aplies in most states in this country.

There is no conspiracy about it - the law does not aply to them, litterally.

Do you even know a native? Apparently not. I have plenty of Navajo friends, and they do not play the "pity party game". They enjoy life, and I have never heard them complain. Most don't live on the reservation, because reservations are HORRIBLE places to live. Many of them do not receive more than 100 dollars per year from the Casino profits. This is due to a corrupt system, but it doesn't bother them. They are happy to get some free money, same as anyone else.

This animosity towards them is a product of old American hatred towards all native tribes inside "our" land. You should reevaluate your views and your reasons for your cleverly hidden racism.
