WASHINGTON — Ronna McDaniel says she will step down next month as chairwoman of the Republican National Committee following former President Donald Trump's endorsement of a new slate of leaders to direct the party.
McDaniel's decision followed Saturday's South Carolina primary and came less than two weeks after Trump endorsed North Carolina GOP chairman Michael Whatley to be the next chairman of the RNC, his daughter-in-law Lara Trump to be co-chair, and top campaign aide Chris LaCivita to be the party’s chief operating officer.

It is imperative to overlay what the Charles Koch network, specifically Americans for Prosperity (AFP), really represents when considering their announcement to withdraw financial support for Nikki Haley.
Koch and AFP are part of the network of multinational/Wall Street entities who previously held all power in the Republican apparatus. All of the systems of the Republican Party apparatus were essentially controlled by a small group of big money influence makers and political interests.
"Battered conservative syndrome" is an outcome of the majority of Republican voters misunderstanding that corporate desires of the Republican and Democrat club apparatus are essentially merged into one party.
Give the Democrats control over policy, and they are happy. Give the Republicans (leadership mostly) money to acquiesce, and they too are happy. And so it goes.
Then came Donald Trump who turned that dynamic on its end. Suddenly, an America First agenda was being pushed by a Republican candidate, and it didn’t take long for the abused Republican and middle class voter to see their best interests were represented by Trump.

More than 60 staffers at the Republican National Committee were laid off days after new leaders, who were hand-picked by former President Donald Trump, were elected to take the helm.
The notices went out Monday to dozens of staffers who worked in the communications, political, data and election integrity divisions of the RNC.
The layoffs came three days after Michael Whatley, former chair of the North Carolina Republican Party, and Lara Trump, Trump's daughter-in-law, were unanimously elected to chair and co-chair the party.
Chris LaCivita, Trump's co-campaign manager, and James Blair, a senior Trump campaign adviser, are also working with the RNC but will maintain their positions with the Trump campaign.
The new leaders and layoffs are part of the effort to "completely streamline the operation" and to "eliminate redundancies" between the campaign and the RNC," a Trump senior campaign official told CBS News. "The goal is to be one operation...We want to make sure we have the most talented people in the most pivotal places."
Some positions were eliminated because they already existed at the campaign level, and other staff members were asked to resign and reapply.
