I suspect that when you are in a normal romantic relationship with someone you try and spend as much time together rather than talking on the phone.

When you're part of a deceptive relationship with a married man spending physically time together is more difficult; hushed calls on the phone have to take the place. Lots of hang ups and redials are probably common places as well.
