Alexei Navalny Reported Dead

The death of Aleksei A. Navalny, reported by the Russian authorities on Friday, leaves the country without its most prominent opposition voice at a time when President Vladimir V. Putin has amassed near-total power, invaded neighboring Ukraine and drawn the sharpest divisions with U.S.-led Western allies since the end of the Cold War.

Oh dear, and its not like this was not in the post.

The exact cause of his death appears to be unknown.

And people unironically imply Putin would be a better president than many of the ones the US has had.

People are quick to conflate attempts at using the DOJ, even though so far all the checks and balances have bogged that down and so far it hasn’t stopped modern political opponents.

They used poison, their justice system, and I’m curious to see what the official report on his death ahead of an election soon.

Seen as President Vladimir Putin's most vociferous critic, Navalny was serving a 19-year jail term on charges widely considered politically motivated.

He was moved to one of Russia's toughest penal colonies late last year.

The prison service in the Yamalo-Nenets district said Navalny had "felt unwell" after a walk on Friday.

He had "almost immediately lost consciousness", it said in a statement, adding that an emergency medical team had immediately been called and tried to resuscitate him but without success.

"The emergency doctors declared the prisoner dead. Cause of death is being established."

Navalny, 47, was last seen only a day ago, looking well and laughing during a court hearing via video link.

His lawyer Leonid Solovyov told Russian media he would not be commenting yet, although Navalny's close aide Leonid Volkov wrote on X: "Russian authorities publish a confession that they killed Alexei Navalny in prison. We do not have any way to confirm it or to prove this isn't true.

Within minutes of Navalny's death being announced by the prison service, the international community hailed the courage of Vladimir Putin's biggest domestic adversary."

I would prefer to be a Russian citizen than a US citizen, no offence but the US ain’t what it once was

Ukrainian Telegram with 10,000+ subscribers are now celebrating Navalny death.

Navalny was a Russian Nationalist.

Of course he is hated by other many Ukrainian Nationalists as well.

Anyone know the official cause of death yet?
