Okay....I have a bit of an internet connection issue...

I recently moved and switched from Sprint DSL to Bell South DSL....

My previous account with Sprint was golden...never had a problem...That was a static IP account....

This new account with Bell South though....Ever since I plugged up the modem and installed the software, I've been having problems keeping a steady connection...

If I leave the internet for any longer then 5 or 10 minutes, I'll have to go into the command prompt and renew my IP....Does this mean I have a Dynamic IP?

I've found a short term solution though.....I just keep my windows media player tuned to on online radio station 24/7 and that seems to work pretty good - Every now and then though it will take too long to buffer and will go stale....Plus, I'm getting tired of having the damn music going all the time - I know I could just turn my speakers off and on and off, etc....but I'm lazy

Any solutions?? Also...Is it bad for me to leave my computer running all the time? I had one friend put it to me like this - Would you leave you're tv on all day...or your coffee pot? So I dunno....I shut it down about once a week just to be on the safe side....unless a power-outage does it for me

I don't know how to help with the internet connection but it's actually more dangerous for your computer to be turned on and off a lot. It wears it out because the most stress coemsfrom then But make sure to turn off your monitor.

Thanks for clearing that part up for me
....Yeah - I always turn my monitor off, but sometimes I'll come home and find it on b/c my cat likes to jump up on the desk and use it as a back scratch

It is probably an unwanted pest. See: Keep losing Internet connection
If you are not sure how to use Hijack this, do a search in computer help. I have a post or two on how to use it, and so do others.

Or

It could be your IE settings. See: How to troubleshoot possible causes of Internet connection problems in Windows XP

Or

It could be a problem with the DSL Modem. See: Troubleshooting cable modems

Which DSL modem did they give you? Bell South Support, downloads, and Troubleshooting

Are you using the USB connector, or the ethernet connector?

There is a lot of information out there, can you give us more input?

kadaitcha.cx...

Its probably a buggie/pest.

Thanks for all the links makeitso! That first link sounds pretty familiar to my situation...I'll have to give that a go....I certainly hope it's not a trojan - I use ad-aware and spybot pretty regularly and I have Norton internet security...but I guess they can slip pass anything these days...

I use Firefox, so I don't know if that would change anything....

The modem is a Westell C90, which is plugged into my LAN card...

I'll have to give you an update tomorrow on how the first suggestion worked, then I'll go from there....

I guess I can live with another night of music
