Federal authorities arrested former Atlantic City council president and Democratic operative Craig Callaway Thursday, alleging he masterminded a mail-ballot fraud scheme in the runup to the 2022 election.

U.S. Attorneys accused Callaway and other unnamed subordinates of paying Atlantic City residents between $30 and $50 to act as authorized messengers and request mail-in ballots for voters whom they had never met. Prosecutors allege that those ballots were later cast without the actual voters’ knowledge.

The charges appear to stem from work Callaway did for Rep. Jeff Van Drew’s 2022 reelection campaign. There’s no indication Van Drew (R-02) knew about the alleged scheme.

There is no mention of the scale at which this was done in this article. Nor the method employed but I wanted a local source for the opener.

Where my concern lies is in the Gateway Pundit article:

With this real-time access to updates, a bad actor would know who voted, but more importantly, who didn’t vote.

People who didn’t vote in an election rarely, if ever, check with their elections offices to ensure they didn’t vote. For example, this woman from Illinois, who was shocked to find out she’d voted in numerous elections, despite claiming Trump’s 2020 election was her first time voting:

For years I've held the position that for those that do not vote as a matter of principle, can you prove it? Can you prove that your name is not found on any ballot for as long as you have been not voting? (Outside of the issue with folks who do vote being able to verify that their vote was counted for exactly who they voted for)

If were to bust this paradigm of evidence being brought about only when there is a change in the party in power, this is where IMO, the argument resides.

Peaked my interest.
I'm going to do some digging into my name tomorrow. This should be interesting. And I'll post if something nefarious is afoot.

Please do and make sure to check all the states you've lived in if applicable.

Would certainly enjoy hearing your results.

Doing this has never crossed my mind. And I'd be curious to see if let's say my name has been used, how knowing that may change my perspective on some things.
But yah I'll check tomorrow and get back.

From the article you cited: "“It’s no secret that candidates from both parties have hired Callaway in the past to help them win elections."

Looks like he's an equal opportunity employer.

So you're telling me voter fraud isn't a partisan problem that has a partisan solution?

this is one person. How many more were there? Or was this just a one off, lone gunman who got caught doing exactly what most of us thought, and what 2000 mules appears to have found. The coincidence is big. If they really wanted to know, squeezing this guy might give who he worked for and who worked with him.

I suppose since he did it for the R's in the past, it's all above board and there is nothing to see here. Election integrity isn't really important. Just the illusion of it is good enough eh?

One issue is that people who decide not to vote, could hypothetically have sophisticated cheaters vote for them, so voters who decide not vote, should consider checking their voting status with their county's website right after elections.

How someone would prove that they didn't vote, if they discovered that a vote was cast in their name could prove challenging, but it's possible that a ballot envelope with signature or walk-in signature exist, and in some cases video evidence may exist.

If a voter knows that they didn't vote and contests it, it's possible that they could be shown a ballot envelope, or other document, with their signature. People's signatures are not private, and in the case of elections, election officials are required to keep them on file.

I guess since countys should only be able to mail out one ballot per registered voter, if someone didn't want to vote, it could make some sense to request an absentee ballot and just hold on to it.

The other major issue is with dirty voter rolls. Rarely, does anyone check for votes from people who don't exists or no longer live in the state. Cleaning up voter rolls, and keeping them clean, should be on every state legislation agenda.

Proper signature verification is another way to reduce illegal votes.
