Senate Republicans are coming to grips with another Donald Trump nomination
WASHINGTON — Republican voters are on track to nominate Donald Trump for president for a third successive election cycle, leaving his GOP skeptics in the Senate at various points in the five stages of grief as he marches to the nomination.
WASHINGTON — Republican voters are on track to nominate Donald Trump for president for a third successive election cycle, leaving his GOP skeptics in the Senate at various points in the five stages of grief as he marches to the nomination.
Sen. Todd Young, of Indiana, said he's been clear about Trump: "I have no intention of supporting him." He quipped that his remarks would hardly be "breaking news, once again."
Sen. Mitt Romney, of Utah, the only Republican to vote to convict Trump in both of his impeachments, said he'll never endorse him.
“I was one of those that voted that he should have been convicted in the impeachment trial. One of the implications of that was that he wouldn’t be able to run again,” Romney said. “How can I possibly endorse someone who I voted had violated a crime and misdemeanor under the constitutional standard?”
Sen. Joe Manchin, of West Virginia, the most conservative Democrat in the chamber, was aghast to see the Republican colleagues he is friendly with rallying around Trump once again.
“I couldn’t believe it. I can’t believe it,” said Manchin, who is not running for re-election this year. “These are people I know, people I respect, I consider friends — to basically sell your soul.”

GOP senators seethe as Trump blows up delicate immigration compromise
“I would encourage (chief Senate GOP negotiator) James Lankford and other conservatives to produce a work product with which they will shortly allow conservatives like myself to review it and take heart that there are a number of us who won’t be looking to third parties and assessing the propriety of passing this bipartisan proposal,” Young said.
Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell acknowledged in a private meeting on Wednesday that Trump’s animosity toward the yet-to-be-released border deal puts Republicans in a serious bind as they try to move forward on the already complex issue. For weeks, Republicans have been warning that Trump’s opposition could blow up the bipartisan proposal, but the admission from McConnell was particularly striking, given he has been a chief advocate for a border-Ukraine package.
“I think the border is a very important issue for Donald Trump. And the fact that he would communicate to Republican senators and congresspeople that he doesn’t want us to solve the border problem because he wants to blame Biden for it is … really appalling,” said GOP Sen. Mitt Romney of Utah, who has been an outspoken critic of Trump.

The bill would restart construction of a border wall, increase funding for border agents and upgraded border technology, reinstate the “remain in Mexico” policy, place new restrictions on asylum seekers, and enhance requirements for E-verify, a database employers use to verify immigration status.
Republican leaders worked for months to negotiate the border and immigration package, a key piece of legislation for the GOP majority focused on an issue Republican lawmakers ran on in the midterms. But crafting immigration policy has proven complicated for House Republicans, exposing divisions within the GOP conference.

This just goes to show how out of touch the elected leaders are with those that elected them. It seems most if not all in both parties need to be changed out for regular people rather than the elite ruling class that they have become.
