Apparently this Church is one of the oldest on the east coast , How is this possible perfect old church yesterday and ruble today . It's a huge church that just decided to crumble pretty crazy

They are also in a rush to demolish the rest - It's 300 year old church ?

The roof of a church collapsed in downtown New London, Connecticut on Thursday afternoon, according to authorities.

It happened at Engaging Heaven Church. Pictures show the historic church's stone steeple missing, a gaping hole in the roof and debris scattered on the ground.

Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont said state emergency personnel responded to help.

These things just don't go I'm done see you later something doesn't add up standing one second and completely gone the next . There wasn't any snow or a load on the roof Fishy Fishy .

Wow that is so sad to see that happen to a historic old building ,
But lack of maintenance and money is a major problem with the churches now days due to a dwindling congregation.

The wood must have rotted in the support beams and lack of regular checking or inadequate work caused this .

I have a family member that had his sciff boat break up at the stern , it looked perfectly OK on the outside but the wood on the inside just rotted away and he was extremely lucky he was just meters from the shoreline .

It would be real interesting to see how far the foundations of that church go down ? And why they decided to knock it down so quickly, was Obama wife anywhere near drinking champagne by any chance .

Yeah, i think you are calling it with rotten support beams.

You would think with a building of such age check-ups would be mandatory as well.

Such a shame to see it go because they don't make them like the used to, although in this instance that's possibly a poor idiom.

CT resident since '88 here. I work in New London (USCGA). I drove by this place many times.

A local structural engineer surmised that 170 years of water seeping into the mortar and cracks, hard freezing, then thawing, repeating over and over will do this. She gave a good analogy of rock faces along highways always collapsing some rocks or boulders on to the flat surface below. It's the same process.
