''Oh Zombie '' Newen Afrobeat.

Where to start, I dunno. Maybe with the man this music honors, a Nigerian jazz composer who died in 1979, Fela Kuti. Kuti took West African music and mixed it with American jazz and a whole lotta funk. Newen Afrobeat is a collection of musicians originally formed in Peru. Toss in the tastes of South American musical sounds and this stuff is quite a smorgasbord of hip swiveling groove.

First off, ya got a huge wind section reminiscent of Tower of Power. Four or five saxophones ranging from a grounding and grunting bass sax to a squeaking soprano, all hitting those repeating riffs at the core of a good funk. Three trumpets blasting fill out the winds. A good half dozen percussion using in different groupings, with a guy on the complete set of traps with congas, bongos,timbales and a whole assortment of hand percussion instruments, beaten, shook, scrapped, and clunked. At least three guitars.Oh and don't forget the key boards.
