For anyone that missed the Geminid Meteor shower last night, it turned out to be one of the best ever at about 600 to 800 meteors per hour at the
peak, and certainly the best I have ever seen. This shower typically puts out about 100-150 per hour, but this one is for the books, as at peak about
600-800 were observable per hour.
This was feed was from Hawaii, and an extremely wide angle astronomical telescope, the Subaru on top of the the summit of Maunakea. The weather was
perfect, but usually is up there since it is above cloud level.
There were fireballs galore and many times there were 4 or 5 meteors at the same time with a number of doubles and triples close to each other which
are debris pieces of asteroid 3200 Phaeton that leaves them in an orbit around the Sun, like most regular comets do.
It will be good tonight and for a few days as well, but off-peak we can expect at least 50-100 per hour when you have visibility like this.

Hey, if you saw this, please respond since you live there. Do you agree that it was as good as I said it was?
It would also be nice if ATS knew you were still looking.
