San Francisco PD was out on reports of a stolen bicycle in the area when a "suspect" decided it would be a good idea to brandish a "firearm" at officers.

www.foxnews.com...

Perfect example of how FAFO could have ended with this man, and any number of innocent bystanders, in the morgue. All because when confronted by police he decided to point and shoot, what was after the fact learned to be a prop gun, at said police officers. In any situation like this one, it is almost impossible for anyone, even a firearms expert, to tell you for a fact if that is a real gun or not.

The fact that the public defender is crying RACISM from the rooftops says a lot about this case. That to me says "he is guilty and should be let go". When you see a person riding one bike, while pushing another alongside them, that triggers something in your mind of "hey, something isn't right here", regardless of race/gender/age/etc. It is unfair for them to say "It’s extremely unlikely police would have treated a white person the same way.". But, guess what, it was not a white person and they have no way of knowing how it would have went down if it had been.

All in all, what precedent will this set for the area? One where you can threaten police with a fake gun and then cry racism, to get out of being charged, when you are inevitably arrested for being a dumbass?

What a wonderful F'ed up world we live in......

EDIT: Debated on adding this in here but decided it fit's in with the narrative the attorney is pushing for so I figured why not.

I look at it this way (some of you might agree, but I would bet most of you will disagree), in this situation, "racial bias" might have actually saved this guys life. Those police officers are probably in fear of losing their jobs, due to being labeled a "racist", any day they have to make any sort of arrest/confrontation/ traffic stop/ etc. with anyone other than a white person. They, more than likely, showed restraint in not ending the situation with this guy in a body bag due to that simple fact. And if it HAD been a white guy that did the same thing, they probably would not have hesitated when they were "shot" at to return fire and end the situation within minutes.

Damn, we have a whole lot going on, in this story.

Latinx (whatever the hell that is) Racism!
Mentally handicapped (supposedly) Mental Health!
Pulling a gun, real or otherwise on officers. Most states you would be dead for that one!
More racism, because he had two bikes, matched a suspect in "A BIKE THEFT"

How the actual Bleep can this be real? Anyone defend this? Are they Trying to make everyone HATE California?
I don't understand anymore.

Whole lot of dumb remarks from someone that, in any other state, would know better than to cry racism on a case that has nothing to do with it.

Now yes, if there had not been a bike theft in the area and the police stopped the guy, sure they have a case there. But there was literally the report they were following up on.

It's almost comical how they try to blame everything on racism, even if it has absolutely nothing to do with the crime they committed, or didn't commit.

BTW, nice quote in your signature line

Truly the messed up thing is that people, in my experiences and perceptions, have become less social, they don't want to speak to people. It seems they don't want to give attention to anybody. I mean the whole thing about looking down at your cellphone this year, it was like people were programmed to look down at it, like a mental trigger, the moment they socially come into contact with anybody.

I am white and live in a mexican community, I know my neighbors are racist because of multiple reasons, I am harassed and unwilling to share any details here. If I complain I think I would be kicked out eventually so I choose not to complain. I am willing to move out, but I cannot at this minute.

It would all be better if the people who were noncriminals, most of us, were nice. I am not saying that 50 years ago everyone in the world was nice, but this year in the US, people are not nice, because they refuse to even speak to you. That is pure apathy. Racism is so bad because there is no reason to it. When anyone does something for no reason they are lying, every single body reaction on every level has a reason, so people think, I am angry at this people because he is different, and that is the reason - hatred for people for the reason of being born because they cannot choose how they are born.

This year people for the most part, might as well be racist, because apathy is worse than racism, for the fact that if you don't care at all about a person, you can kill them and smile, some people that get angry with others for no reason, they still cannot be so evil to hurt somebody, which is much better. Apathy is truly horrible.

It seems more of a mental health crisis situation to me than anything else and ignoring hundreds of years of systemic racism just doesn't cut it any more. There is also new training methods employed by police. The old days of power tripping police without any de-escalation or training/ability to identify a person in a mental health crisis are long gone.

Corvera's attorneys alleged a White person with two bikes and shooting a gun off in the upscale Marina District "would be unlikely" to have been stopped.

Agreed - Racism.

California Police have new training methods in place to identify people in mental health crisis and that is probably why they did not knee-jerk shoot the guy dead without any thought.

Proposed legislation would bolster academy training to include classes more focused on mental health, social services, psychology and communication

So, because someone is in a "mental health crisis", police are not supposed to act when threatened with a firearm?

Sounds like a great way to get police officers killed.

Wow, the idiocracy in that statement is profound.

That, is racism. Assuming that, because someone is white, they will not be punished for a crime.

Did you watch the cop's bodycam? They used the car door as a shield and first tried to get the mentally ill guy to drop the gun, and was demanding he drop the gun through the whole shooting match.

The police were shooting to kill all the time IMO and they were protected by their car at all times while continuing to de-escalate and talk the guy down.

Would this have happened if it was a white guy with two bikes, who knows?

Yeah .. California loves to pull the 'racism' card.
They love the 'gender' card too. Weird place.

They were being threatened with a firearm, what were they supposed to do? Stand up and surrender?

Everyone wants to say that this would not have happened if it was a white guy, I call bullspit.

Take a look at the last paragraph of my OP and tell me I am wrong.

They followed their training which included protecting themselves and first and foremost trying to de-escalate and talk the guy down by surrendering his weapon and not just shooting to kill as a first knee-jerk reaction.

What would I think if I saw a white guy going down the road with two bikes? Probably, it's none of my business.

You're still glossing over the whole point of this thread, that the "only stopped him because he wasn't white".

Such a bullsnip copout

We don't know why they stopped him. They could have gotten a bike theft call or known of bike thefts in the area.

The only copout is your assuming something that may not be there in the first place.

Would you look twice at a white guy walking two bikes down the street?

I know it would look somewhat like an odd thing to me.

READ THE LINK IN THE OP They were in the area for a bike theft call.

You should really read things fully before you come in here trying to make everyone else wrong. But that's pretty typical for you, now isn't it.

And yes, if I was in the area for bike theft call, as was in the OP, I would look twice at a white guy doing the exact same thing.
