I was briefly in the Army Cadet Force (ACF) crica 1999 (before I parted ways with authority) and away on a weekend camp In North Wales. I made friends with another socially awkward teenager (always male, I've never had a female friend) and we seemed to get on well. I asked him what music do you listen to and he said a band called Blink 182 had immersed his entire musical taste to the point where he didn't listen to anything else any longer. I'd never heard them before but then he played me Dammit from Dude Ranch. I'd never heard such visceral good natured vitalism and self - deprecation in one song before. It made me a fan of Blink 182 for life. I've still never heard anything quite as vital as that song all these long empty years later.

There was some really fun music from that Southern California scene back in 90s and early 2000s. Ever hear the Aqubats? Blink 182's Travis Barker played for them, under the alias "The Baron Von Tito", or simply, "The Baron'.

I have an ear for good natured pop music and can intuit sincerity. Blink 182 are up there with the Beatles in terms of good natured sincerity in a way so few other popular music acts are.
