Just an FYI...... malvertising

My husband's laptop got something called malvertising, and apparently you don't even have to click on anything. It almost looked like something sent by MS....with an 833- phone number for Microsoft Cust Svc.....LMAO. Yeah, we clicked on that.

It was on his Opera browser, and Malwarebytes blocked it from installing. So we forced the browser closed in Task Manager and ran virus etc scans on Malwarbytes, CCleaner and Webroot. ALMOST looks like Ransomeware....

That had to come from somewhere. I'd be wanting to track that down ma'am.

Just downloaded the malwarebytes and ran it. It didn't find anything on my system. I am usually careful and watch for what defender scans and run Ccleaner almost every night to make sure. I am always skeptical of downloading antiviral software, I check the address to make sure it is right. It seemed legit so I loaded it up.

I was surprised it did not find anything, I have not had it on my computer for over four years now, I went through and cleaned up my computer back then and never reinstalled that again.

My Mom's computer got something like this the other day. I went to Ctrl-Alt-Delete to Lock the Screen and picked Switch User instead. It let me change the User to the same User and the Malware screen was gone.

Hopefully this crap is being investigated by McAfee, Norton, etc...

I think that wiki article I linked above mentions variations going ack some years.
I guess this'll be around until they move on to the next variation.

Makes me wonder if those Browser Guard tools/extensions really do work??
