Kidnapped American in Iraq Shown on Video (moved from ATSNN), page 1

Al Jazeera aired a video showing the American contractor that was captured earlier this week. This civilian contractor had been working in Iraq on a reconstruction project when he was kidnapped. Jeffrey Ake, the civilian, whose name was released by the US embassy, sat behind a desk and urged the US to withdraw from Iraq. Al-Jazeera also stated that the video "urged the US administration to open a dialogue with the Iraqi resistance... to save his life".

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Al-Jazeera showed video Wednesday of an Indiana contractor who was kidnapped in Baghdad earlier this week and reported that he pleaded for Washington to save his life by withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq.

Ake spoke on the video, but only a few words could be heard in the broadcast. Al-Jazeera reported that he asked the U.S. government to begin withdrawing from Iraq and to save his life. No group claimed responsibility for the abduction.

"Anytime there is a hostage — an American hostage, it is a high priority for the United States," he said "Our position is well known when it comes to negotiating. Obviously this is a sensitive matter."

These terrorists must be getting their desired reactions because they continue to kidnap people. I wonder if the United States secretly negotiates with these people behind closed doors. My question is, would terrorists continue to kidnap people if they weren’t getting the right response from our government?
