Petgrave, 31, was given a standing ovation by fans at the Steelers’ Nov. 12 game, though he did not play.
After he attempted to walk off the injury by getting to the medical bench, he collapsed on the ice and later died from the wound and the world reacted with heartbreak and anger to the incident, with the latter emotion still being directed to Petgrave.
It comes after a moment's silence and minute's applause at the Steelers game at the Utilita Arena on November 12. Some have interpreted the applause as for Petgrave, and have commented it's in bad taste claiming that he was a dirty player throughout his career.
"I coached Matt for a very short stint. I wanted to get rid of him immediately," Elmo Aittola, an ex-coach of Petgrave, said to Ilta Sanomat. "He has no respect for himself or his opponents. He used to get into a bit of a mess. He is a very dirty player."
