WASHINGTON — U.S. and European officials have begun quietly talking to the Ukrainian government about what possible peace negotiations with Russia might entail to end the war, according to one current senior U.S. official and one former senior U.S. official familiar with the discussions.

The conversations have included very broad outlines of what Ukraine might need to give up to reach a deal, the officials said. Some of the talks, which officials described as delicate, took place last month during a meeting of representatives from more than 50 nations supporting Ukraine, including NATO members, known as the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, the officials said.

There is simply no other way for this to end. With all the money and lost lives that, IMO, could have been completely avoided.

The Biden administration does not have any indication that Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to negotiate with Ukraine, two U.S. officials said. Western officials say Putin still believes he can “wait out the West,” or keep fighting until the U.S. and its allies lose domestic support for funding Ukraine or the struggle to supply Kyiv with weapons and ammunition becomes too costly, officials said.

I don't know what this means. Pushing Ukraine to the table pretty much ensures Russia gets what it wants and possibly more.

No one gets everything they want in these kinds of situations. If peace can be found, all parties get something they can live with.

MAGA House Republicans are causing the money and weapons flow to Ukraine to slow to a trickle.

They have to negotiate, or hand over the country to Putin, or keep fighting/dying till the last bullet is used.

Do these officials feel Ukraine can not win the war, or keep it up? Or do these officials now need to fund Israel as a priority?

A single Putin isn't as dangerous as a collective muslim.

They want one less financial obligation because this Israel/Palestine thing isnt ending any time soon.

This is, "We can't afford two proxy wars, and we can't keep funding you to tread water, so give the area under Russian control to Russia and you can still keep the port in Odesa."

Putin can take the Russian sympathetic areas and Ukraine keeps 90%+ of its territory. Only thing I'd worry about is Russia demanding Ukraine never join NATO as part of the deal. Ukraine gets screwed for more pressing issues.

If I had to guess.
