Should your spose die and your kids are to lazy to vist you may still have company.

Seventy-eight-year-old widow, Akino Okano, is lonely.

In Japan, the average woman lives to 85, seven years beyond the average man.

From the age of 22, Akino lived with her husband's parents and 11 other members of his family. But they have all died or moved away and she now lives in an enormous farmhouse on her own.

"When I come back from being out for the day and the house is dark, I feel alone and sad," says Akino.

"Conversation makes me happy. Sometimes I just feel like chatting."

To help combat the loneliness of longevity - and in true Japanese style - the country has turned to technology for guidance.

While I don't really understand the Title of this thread, I can say that reading this has made me a little sad , I never even thought about how lonely people must feel in the old age. That was a very touching story

The point of the title is
that when we get old and there is no regular contact with people robots might keep us company.

Holy Crapola! that is kind of creepy , Your right these are the first initial steps towards Robot Nannies I didn't even think of that aspect of it , i was just feeling bad for the old lady. How is this technology gonna evolve in 20,30 , 60 years?
