Telling people they weren't essential for 9 months might've contributed to that,
but also, I think society's kinda waking up to some degree.

Not enough to truly analyse, but at least enough to sleepwalk out of the Bloodletting Room and instinctively take a multivitamin and eat an orange.

A lot of people retired or went back to other careers. I know a lot of people close to retirement just said F’ it.

Or companies could pay their executives less and pay their employees more and not raise prices.

Yes they could do that and I agree they should. But there is a problem. If they drop the pay at the top, the top will go elsewhere to some other company that will pay more. So they loose their head people and might go out of business because of that. Again, this reduces employment that in turn reduces purchases that in turn reduces employment.

They would all have to agree to a ratio of pay from top to bottom but there are laws against that. Government could try but that would be communism or facism depending on how it is done.

Again, I don't have the answers, just some understanding of the problems complicated nature.

You hit the nail on the head, sometime after the 80s this happened.

Back then for most places there wasn’t an obscene difference between the top of companies vs the bottom. Sure there have always been rich people, but for the most part executives didn’t make more in an hour than most make in a month and we are seeing that now.

How is it fixed. Well, something has to give. People won’t work if it isn’t enough for food/housing etc. What is the point? The greed at the top won’t let go of what they have enjoyed for so long.
We are smack in the middle of this right now.

a reply to: JAGStorm1 Working my way thru Univ., I worked in a fast food establishment for a time.

They pretended to pay me and I pretended to work and stole enough meat to feed myself and roommates and gave away free ice cream to little kids and pretty coeds.

What employers need to realize is that a good salary for the employees engenders loyalty. That's why I start my help out at $20hr with benefits and a 10% commission; loyalty is priceless in a retail shop selling high dollar trinkets as it should be in any capitalistic venture.
Disgruntled employees can take a toll on the bottom line, real quick!!
