Pronouns in a person's bio is primarily a Caucasian/Euro liberal thing. I noticed a rather hilarious example today in an email I received from the school district in English and Spanish. The English version included pronouns in bio, along with this link which has subtle shaming insinuations throughout
www.bottomline.org...

One of Bottom Line’s core commitments is to creating a diverse and inclusive environment. As both a service provider and employer, we not only want people to be comfortable being themselves, but also to be celebrated for their identities and what makes them unique. In addition, we try to build a culture where we don’t make assumptions or pass judgment on each other.

In the Spanish version of the letter, pronouns and link are absent.
This is too funny, and does align well with what I've gleaned from many discussions with my international students; gender fluidity is mostly a white liberal concept and doesn't jibe with how most of the world thinks. I'd guess a lot of it is the product of too much comfort, too much time to think solely about one's self and how others should see them and treat them, and too much social media.
Do I have compassion for young people who feel disassociation when it comes to their own bodies? Yes, one hundred percent. Adolescence has never been an easy time, and I'd guess that it's harder now than ever before; that the information age doesn't necessarily benefit the maturing mind for the majority of kids. This is why I think a universal approach (rather than an untested theory that one can be born in the wrong body) might be better.

Thoughts?

When did gender pronouns become a thing?

Believe it or not, English speakers' dissatisfaction with binary, gendered language was documented as early as 1795. Use of “they” as a gender-neutral pronoun predates this discussion by some three or four hundred years. Many languages – both modern and historical – don't gender their nouns at all, including Japanese, Tagalog, and Haitian Creole.[/Quote]

as a spanish speaker, you typically use the male plural when talking about a mixed group of men and women. but lately we use the @ symbol so you will see nosotr@s, amig@s, etc. we also use o/a too.

we might be open to the e ending for neutrality, but if you us x aka Latinx, amigx, you will be looked at weird or laughed at

I just want to feel right about using "they" or "their" as a singular pronoun when the gender is not known, such as on this forum full of anonymous members.

Like: "XXXX has made the argument that their rights ..." in the singular, rather than writing his or her when not known.

Neil Gaiman says it's okay, like since 1300s.
Autho r Neil Gaiman hands a free history lesson to those attacking 'They/Them' pronouns

That Youtube video seems staged exaggeration rather than actual.

ETA: Back in the old days women teachers were all called Mrs.
My fourth grade teacher said that her last name that was the name of a city came about because she was directly descended from the guy who founded the city. If she was married then she would have had a different name. That was back in the days before Ms. was invented.

Good morning my friend!!

It's okay to make minor grammar mistakes. Everyone does it--even some writers from the 1300s did it, as Neil Gaiman so adeptly demonstrated!

That video is definitely meant to be satire

This new and "improved" edge browser is tied in with some AI thingy. Now every time I open new tab it's going to flash gender pronoun stuff at me. Stupid algorithm!

That article wasn't written by Neil Gaiman, it just shows some tweets he made. I consider the article to be rather over the top.

That preferred pronouns thing is sort of weird. It's like on voting ballots where prefers Republican or prefers Democrat appears.

For crying out loud! We aren't voting for Coordinators based on preferred pronoun.

Edit to add:
So what is the preferred third person singular neutral pronoun? I don't feel right referring to a person as it.

As a native Spanish speaker, it think this whole pronoun thing is STUPID!

Some Spanish retards want to murder the Spanish language by adding "todes" instead of "todos" when referring to "everybody" but so far it has been unsuccessful because most native speakers recognize it as "pendejadas" (You figure it out) and laugh at them.

pretty sure none of thos people that identified gender pronouns in the past called it violence to misgender someone, or demanded people go to jail over misgendering.
