The Moon Was Full the Night I Went Astray

The moon was full the night I went astray
When down the witchy path I ventured forth
The mossy downs my bare feet did convey
And as I went my features slowly morphed.
An elvish grin began to spread its gleam
A fawnish gallop o'ertook my stride
I leapt through brush and landed by the stream
To far off lands my sharpened eyes had spied.
And there it gleamed the moon’s rays drawing out
The marbled scapes of beings beyond scope
Who welcomed, beckoned open arms about
I warmed at once to kin for which I’d hoped.
I’ve given up my mortal being since
To live amongst the ones who call me prince.

Nice. Really good.

Dante's Inferno knows how to inspire. I did an entire tablet music program "symphony" (of all the circles). I thought it might be good, but it's all incredibly simplistic and minimally layered. Really bad and hard to listen to at times... I tried but... not a composer.

Still, love The Divine Comedy... Timeless. Needs all the homages possible.

I have two translations and am switching between the two

The Carlyle-Okey-Wicksteed translation is straightforward and unadorned, but I switched up to Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's translation when in Canto III the famous line read

Leave all hope, ye that enter

I preferred Longfellow's more dramatic

All hope abandon, ye who enter in!

I'm taking notes on each Canto so I don't get myself lost in the Inferno.

I'm facing similar difficulties regarding finishing good books recently. This is why I've set some lofty goals for myself this year (starting with a recent birthday) to read or revisit the classics-a year of classics.
I started with Dante, will move on to Virgil, then Homer--out loud as it was intended to be, Ovid, Chaucer, and I want to finish with Milton's Paradise Lost.
Not sure if there will be room for more but I hope so If so I was thinking about tackling Joyce's Ulysses which I've always avoided.

Hi Peeple, I love your last couplet!! It resonates more with me than the prince business, lol. Tbh I rushed through this sonnet and let the constraints of the poetic form stilt my message a bit.
