You're welcome! Glad you guys appreciate the find. It's a neat story.
It must've been an amazing experience finding that wreck out there in the wild, and now you know the story behind it! A hike to remember for sure.
Thank you for sharing this with us--looking forward to seeing more of your photos from the site.
Nice find, hope you took a few souvenirs. That is what I would have done. Is it illegal to do so? I don't think picking up trash in the woods would
be illegal. If they wanted it they would have gone back and taken whatever they wanted from the plane. Now it is just trash in the woods.
I considered taking the engine placard.
But we ended up leaving everything how it was.
I'm hoping some kids out hunting or hiking come across it and it becomes a source of mystery or a memory for them.
I know we had a great time investigating the area.
Adirondacks Mountains of upstate NY are famous as a "black hole" where there are numerous aircraft crashes, many of which are not found, if at all ,
for decades
The area is very rugged with numerous mountain peaks, heavily wooded with many small lakes
Here is a story of a forest ranger who locates an catalogs the wreck sites
