Yes we both were she was onboard Comtech, I was an FE, and routinely flew with the sq co when you figure in 10 years to get to ltcol if you are a hot
commodity half of that as an IP they fly alot. add in deployments where they are at the stick across the pacific or atlantic.
Fighter pilots yea fly shorter missions, but an IP is an IP they fly all the time.
I currently work in a fighter sq as IT and ive watched guys fly more than once in a day, pretty routine.
ETA: my time in ops, and as maintenance never had a sq co over Lt Col, full bird was group and above.
Typical time in service for Major is 12 years, 10 for below-the-zone. Lt Col is 16 / 14.
Lt Col in a command slot starts flying less, managing more. Some avoid the commander jobs so they can keep flying more.
Not sure why this matters to you this much. I believe you that enlisted crew members can pile up more hours, could be up there all day every day. But
once a flyer gets into command / high level leadership they fly less, fly a desk instead. They can tell their troops that they are taking a plane up
anytime they want, just don’t do it that often.
We had a one-star at Tyndall who kept doing this, and he was out of practice, kept needing to use the giant chains as the last defense against sliding
into the water. After even the cable didn’t quite stop him. He was quite a funny guy, guess he thought that was funny.
I was just a civil engineering puke, but we lived with these people. They spent more time at the O club playing CRUD than anything else. Helicopter
drivers used to always be in trouble for flying down the beach throwing glow sticks at the various clubs and crowds.
