I am looking to play chess with a certain someone who has cancer and is in the hospital.

If I want to pay chess with a friend, what is the best app to get so I can play with only a certain person in some way where we can do one move or more per day.

Please!?

chess.com, you can invite a friend, it's free but you have to make an account. It's only email and username needed.

Every browser can do it, no app needed.

Add: I forgot, you can play a move a day and similar, there are modes that support what you want to do.

I used to love chess when I was younger and found it frustrating to play another person as it was so slow going , then I got a Kasparov chess computer and loved it big time ,even on the highest settings I do not remember ever loosing many games .

During the covid lock down I sent of for another one and set it up at the same setting and got my backside handed to me non stop , it sucks to get old with dementia , it is now back living in it's box

If you can't visit regularly, why not just text or email? You could even just call with your moves. Both get a small magnetic board that can easily be put aside.

To play chess with your friend, there are several apps available that allow you to play with specific people and even take your time for each move. One popular option is the "Chess.com" app. It offers a feature where you can invite your friend to play and enjoy the game at your own pace, making one move or more per day. Another great app is "lichess.org," which also provides a similar option for correspondence games.

I hope you and your friend have a wonderful time playing chess together, and it can be a great way to connect and spend time with them during their hospital stay. Best wishes to both of you!
