You can skip to the 3:19 mark and miss the ad for War Thunder. Anyone with a casual interest in the Roswell event will be familiar with much of what is presented. I have always thought the testimony by Jesse Marcel who actually handled the material and knew the press conference he was forced to participate in was a total lie due to direct orders from General Ramey. Then in typical Why File format some of the details are discussed yet when you think it is all Airfarce B.S. there is a kicker.. Enjoy

It was a sunny afternoon on June 24th, 1947, and Kenneth Arnold was flying his small aircraft over Mineral, Washington. He was heading to Yakima but took a slight detour to look for a lost US Marine Corps plane. If he could find it, he’d collect a nice reward.

Flying near Mount Rainier, he spotted a shiny object in his plane's mirror. Then, he saw multiple flashes of light. It looked like a group of aircraft, flying in formation. But something was wrong - these 'aircraft' didn't have tails. And they were flying faster than anything he’d ever seen. After about two minutes, the objects vanished near Mount Adams.

When Kenneth landed in Yakima, he immediately told his friends and airport staff about his bizarre experience. By the time he reached Pendleton, Oregon, his story had spread. Reporters were eager to hear it.

In describing the odd movement of these objects, Kenneth said it was like a teacup saucer skipping across a lake. At that moment, the term “flying saucer” was born.

And over the next two weeks, events would unfold that would affect every person on Earth. And change the course of history.

Last night I caught the premiere of Wes Anderson's "Asteroid City".

I usually enjoy his work as it is usually just a lot of quirky fun and stories that combine to create an elegant and sometimes funny story.

This movie however was not what I expected as if you have not seen the trailer, there is a point in the film where they make contact with an alien.

The alien is odd as it reminded me of an episode of Project UFO, "The Dollhouse Incident."

The movie has these odd sentences and odd dialog that seem to make little sense at the time. At one point the film seems to go off the rail where the entire cast starts chanting "You can't wake up if you don't fall asleep".

It gave me the impression that it was being subversive in the sense that any alien contact we in the real world are about to have is completely fraudulent. How does this dovetail with Roswell? There were some strange allusions to 1950's post Roswell events as well as making references to the Ufo industrial complex.

That said, the film left an impression.

With tech..we were able to read that note he held upside down in his hand while showing it off. Don't remember what it said, but it can be searched...

Off-topic but how was the film overall? I'm a huge fan of his flicks, Grand Budapest being my fave

Here is a (very) brief "interview" with Kenneth Arnold. I had to chuckle when they said, "Mt. Rainier, OREGON". I guess they did that to avoid confusion with the other Washington.

I grew up listening to my father and grandfather arguing about Roswell. Dad worked at White Sands, was a rocket surgeon back in the day. He said from the beginning it was a weather balloon. Papaw was an old farmer that read the almanac and hired a water witch to sink his well.

All I know is that during their arguments, they never talked about bodies. That mythology came later.

Also, it came later that my Dad saw a Tic Tac hovering over our property in Dona Ana NM. (All the good chili comes from around there). It sped off after a few moments, lickedy split. Someone else at the base also witnessed a Tic Tac the same Sunday afternoon, in El Paso, which is a short distance away. Both witnesses worked at the base, and both reported it to officials there, as the thought MIGHT have been Russians watching WSMR employees? It was weird. They called them cigar shaped back then. Tic Tacs had not been a candy back then. This was when I was 17. 50 years ago.,

I missed seeing it by 30 seconds. I saw my Dad after. He was shook up.

We went to see Eric Von Daniken at NMSU right after he wrote Chariots of the Gods, shortly after that sighting. He could barely speak English, but his slides blew our minds.

My dad changed in his beliefs after that.

But I don't think Roswell was a crashed saucer with bodies. The bodies werent talked about around there at first at all.

i wish it was all true but if you dig deeper and also look at the background/credibility of the witnesses, much is put into perspective again. it is more likely that some kind of spy balloon or weather balloon with a lot of technology actually crashed 1947. besides, many of the stories are not consistent. furthermore: hearsay can never be proof. but this story is fascinating all the same.

YAHTZEE! That was a good one. Better information than most other videos and new (for me) information.

I think that if you watch it, you will find that the film is very ON topic. I recommend seeing it not just because it is a well acted and visually compelling film, but there are some deep seated nuggets and even some subversive parts that kind of spell out some of the grand conspiracy.

What are you calling the kicker? That he finally assails the credibility of the witnesses talking about aliens after a long drawn out story about aliens? Or that he says there will be another video where he will presumably tell another long drawn out story of an alien who survived only to finally assail the credibility of the witness telling that story too?

I do give him some points for pointing out the credibility issues with witnesses such as Glenn Dennis, since the alien bodies story is largely based on his story. But he only does a half-assed job of pointing out the problems with Dennis. The wikipedia summary is short and sweet, and this is by believer researchers who wanted to believe him and were only trying to confirm his story, not refute it:

en.wikipedia.org...

Dennis's account is repeated in Witness to Roswell: Unmasking the 60-Year Cover-Up by Thomas Carey and Donald Schmitt, published in 2007. Regarding Dennis providing researchers with a false name, they write, "His surprising and disappointing response was,... 'I gave you a phony name, because I promised her that I would never reveal it to anyone'." The authors then comment that "Dennis was found to have knowingly provided false information to investigators, and must technically stand impeached as a witness."

The Why Files also fails to mention that Dennis had a strong incentive to lie: He owned a Roswell museum in the middle of nowhere (Roswell) and needed to drive traffic to it for it to be profitable, so that was a strong monetary incentive to tell stories about nurse named Naomi Maria Selff and some alien bodies when researchers proved that no such nurse ever existed.

The kicker is the 1950 FBI document found in 2013.... you might have missed that as it is at the end of the video.

That's not a kicker, that's a complete nothingburger, I thought you would know that. I watched the entire video so I don't think I missed anything. If The Why files led you to believe that crap, maybe that's why you should find better sources than The Why Files; they will fill your head with incorrect nonsense. It wasn't found in 2013, William Moore was writing about that back in 1985, and it's got nothing to do with Roswell. There is an ATS thread about the 1950 document:

Debunked! The FBI alien bodies memo – A case study in the reinvention of the wheel

(1) The memo is NOT a new release

(2) The memo relates to a HOAX exposed DECADES ago by a convicted con-man - Silas Newton.

(3) The memo does NOT relate to Roswell

I’m not the first person to get frustrated about discussions of the relevant memo by Special Agent Guy Hottel dated 22 March 1950. William Moore (a prominent UFO researcher and co-author of the first book about the Roswell crash) has expressed very similar feelings.

In 1985 (yes, over 25 years ago!), William Moore wrote that Hottel’s memo “has been cited out of context again and again by an entire array of UFO researchers as conclusive evidence that the U.S. government is in possession of a crashed saucer. Had any of them bothered to research the matter before jumping to conclusions, they would have realized the memo is essentially useless in that the origin of the information cited therein can be traced directly to Silas M. Newton himself”. (See Moore, 1985, page 144)

Sorry for the late reply.

Honestly, after seeing it, it took a few days for me to fully process it.

There were a lot of layers to the story, and some of the strangest dialog to come out of it, is “You can’t wake up, if you don’t fall asleep”. If you see the film you will know what I mean. It’s as if the movie had some subversive underpinnings to it that honesty will surface with a second or third viewing.

One thing I will say though. Scarlett Johansson is ridiculously beautiful in it. a reply to: TXRabbit
