I just can't imagine any other propulsion unit on a starship, that could supply a crew with constant acceleration to reach the speed of light and beyond into the superluminal realm; like a micro-mini black hole propulsion unit (MMBH).

I need to comment that physics say in order for a mass to reach speed of light, an infinite amount of energy is needed. I doubt a mini black hole can provide that. (key word here is 'infinite'), even if that propulsion method somehow works.

I think Erno86 got a liittle overexcited talking about superluminal since the video he posted says nothing about that, it talks about how long to get to the speed of light.

The guy who made the video sounds smart but he apparently can't put together the proverbial 2 + 2 so I'll do it for him. Near the end of his video he mentions that black holes emit about 10^24 Joules of energy in their last second of life as they finish evaporating.

He probably also knows that if you build a solar collector with the diameter of the entire earth, that it would take 97 days to collect 10^24 Joules of solar energy

But you need 10^24 Joules in one second just to break even trying to make the black hole he talks about, and if your mirrors were 100% efficient this means you'd need a solar collector 8.4 million times the size of the earth, just to put in as much energy every second as is coming out every second.

I think he realizes this because he mentions this might be one way we could detect aliens with interstellar capability because they might have such incredibly large reflectors blocking their sun's output.

So what's he missing? Well we have to assume the solar reflectors are not 100% efficient, so let's say they need to be 10 million times the size of the Earth. Is there enough material in our solar system to build a reflector 10 million times the size of the Earth? You've got Mars, Venus and Mercury, as potential material sources. Earth's moon is off the table since we need it for stability, and the entire asteroid belt is only estimated to have about 4% the mass of Earth's moon. I don't see how you could use the gas giants since you can't build a large reflector out of gas.

One thing he doesn't mention at all, nor does Erno is that going faster than half the speed of light would be fatal to biological creatures such as humans, because so-called "empty space" is not actually empty, it has enough hydrogen atoms in it (a few per cubic meter perhaps) that the radiation from those would be fatal at faster than half the speed of light. A probe could presumably be designed to withstand more radiation, but as we found out in Fukushima, even mechanical devices are adversely affected by radiation so they too are probably limited to far less than the speed of light though perhaps a bit more than half the speed of light humans might survive with enough shielding.

So many other problems in this fantasy, some of which are mentioned in the video, like gamma rays from the black hole being lethal, etc.

Arbitrageur, thank you for detailed explanation. I have turned negative when have read reaching speed of light.
Not going to happen.
Something else is in play here. QM effects that are not known or is known but is not mastered yet?

cheers

Coincidentally this came up on my youtube feed today. If there was ever an explanation ...this, is it. They called him a nut job and discredited him for years, but here we are, seems he knew something out of the ordinary after all.

Lazar does know something, how to BS people who don't know science into thinking he knows science, but the physicists know better, they can tell Lazar's BS "physics" is BS.

Thanks all for your posts i really do find the exploration of the unknown interesting and trying to make sense of it in an intelligible way. Sorry if i ruffled anyone's feathers with my request and it might seem a strange bday gift to give someone. So much good posts here i hope this thread helps others in the future in their quest for greater knowledge of the unknown as well.

When I imagine the flying saurcer I simply cannot envision how the pilots are sitting on the top of the engine that (as some say) bends space-time? Just think how powerfull that power unit must be and living beings are right on the top of it...what can go wrong?
And we humans are afraid of electric or hydrogen cars...haha..

I think the alien craft has a 'normal' aux engines (if it is meant for landing) ...rocket engines (flames were described by witnesses), spinning plated or parts of the craft, even propellers... Granted, all that I meantioned are on the very sophisticated level of tech but nothing that breaks lows of phisics.

Now, during the flight the craft is carried by the some sort of a 'tractor beam' that is emitted by a controller/emitter craft hidden in orbit or under water. Some UFOs that are not meant for landing do not have any engines onboard (tic-tacs for example) and are moved on the tip of the beam.

There)

Hi,

I agree with another commenter, Jack Sarfatti’s website Stardrive.org is where you want to be, real science not a bunch of crap like Bob Lazar. Lazar claims he worked on highly classified programs at Groom Lake, yet he lacks academic credentials to even make it to the interview stage. Don’t be pulled into nonsense about cosmic federations or folks like Emery Smith, Cory Goode, David Wilcox, GAIA, etc.., Good Luck
