The Holocaust: A Tactful Discussion

Let’s take a minute to discuss the facts, or lack thereof, around the Holocaust.

As we are all aware the Germans were meticulous record keepers and several had gone on record during the Nuremburg trials to corroborate these figures including Rudolph Höss, Auschwitz Camp Commandant and the originator of using Zyklon B.

During his trial Höss testified with specific detail the total number of people processed at his camp which was later included in his memoir:

I can only remember the figures involved in the larger actions, which were repeated to me by Eichmann or his deputies.

From Upper Silesia and the General Gouvernement 250,000

Germany and Theresienstadt 100,000

Holland 95,000

Belgium 20,000

France 110,000

Greece 65,000

Hungary 400,000

Slovakia 90,000 [Total 1,130,000]

I can no longer remember the figures for the smaller actions, but they were insignificant by comparison with the numbers given above. I regard a total of 2.5 million as far too high. Even Auschwitz had limits to its destructive capabilities.

As you can see from his attestation the figure is much lower than what is historically bandied about which means that if Auschwitz, the largest of the camps, could not handle the alleged 2,500,000-3,500,000 (and Höss’ estimate to be half to a third of this), what can we further extrapolate for the rest of the German camp system?

Did they Germans kill millions? Yes. Did the Germans kill 6,000,000 Jews? Probably not, it wasn’t mechanically possible according the person who did the most of the killing. Why would he lie about the numbers when admitting to killing millions? It is not like it would get him clemency or change history’s perception of him, he was rather unrepentant regardless.

This is a great point, why not discuss what Höss said, tactfully of course, and try to understand what actually happened.

My thoughts are antisemitic rants are generally banned here at ATS which is where these sorts of threads can lead.

The fact is the holocaust happened and millions of people died down to Nazi scum that perpetrated the sad act of mass genocide and depravity.

Squabbling over the exact numbers seems to be beside the point in my book.

This is a tactful discussion because that's how you have to handle topics like this.

Wait till someone who is antisemitic, racist, or white supremacist decides to offer up their two cents and opinion on the matter and see whether or not that remains the case.
