The United Nations is now involved in the American reparations movement. Is it now a done deal?

A Howard University professor led a group of black academics who are asking the United Nations to push the United States to make $5 million payouts to black U.S. residents a reality.

Justin Hansford, a Howard University School of Law professor, was joined by fellow academics from the University of Pittsburgh and Columbia University in his message at the U.N. Permanent Forum on People of African Descent. Hansford specifically called for a "process of apology, and reparation — not on their terms but on our terms,"

www.washingtonexaminer.com...$5m-reparations

Seems like 5 million dollars apiece is the going rate for being black in America. I don't know. I mean, they want preferential treatment with regard to employment. They want 5 million each. [snipped]
What about the horrific racism and literal concentration-campesque treatment of the Japanese during WW2? I would rather give those people or their descendents 5 million apiece than all black people.

Well that's my opinion as a human on earth. No one deserves to gain 5 million dollars or any other privilege due to the color of their skin.

With the UN now being involved, I imagine global pressure will force America to comply with their demands.

Where's the money going to come from? We're $32 trillion in the hole.

Not ever going to happen, but funny still the same...

My ancestry is Irish (slave) and Native American.

What will my reparations be, I wonder?

Will they give me North Carolina?

We are roughly a quadrillion USD in the hole if you look at all six of our ledgers.

15 times more than the real estate value of the planet.

So we'll just print more and it will all work out...

They are only saying some law professor from a historically black Washington D.C. college is asking the UN to put pressure on the US.

I am shocked by the amount for every black person who has never been a slave...but then it came to me that the money will be back in circulation in no time, plus it should come with a clause to never play the victim card ever again.
That may be actually worth it.
Maybe African countries whose leaders and male slave drivers rounded up their own people for money can also contribute. It would only be fair.

Next, people around the world asking for reparations going back to roman times.
I see no problem with that, every kind of people have been slaves in the past and there doesn't seem to be a "use by" date attached.

Meanwhile modern slaves who are alive right now and could do with some help are ignored...

Wasn't there evidence that the Berbers were selling slaves from Europe and elsewhere to various Native American groups? They had vast material wealth if not manufactured goods to trade. Furs, perhaps some gold, etc.

Sometimes I think I see Muammar Quaddaffi's face in the Old South.

Sequoyah looks like a famous TV personality.

The issue needs research. What if it turned out that slave raiders went after villages which showed signs of having owned European slaves purchased from the Vikings or the Ottoman empire and their Berber allies?

Dumb movement with asinine goals.

I demand 10 trillion USD in gold, silver & jewels as reparations from the Italian government because i'm pretty sure my ancestors were enslaved by the Romans. Probably.

On the plus side the UN gets ridiculous requests like this every week, often from people with much more deserving claims so they'll probably just file it away and do nothing as usual.

Even if they do decide to act on it, the outcome will be the same as them doing nothing. Yay for impotent organisations.

I have made up a speculative hypothesis described in other threads describing a little circumstantial and etymological evidence that suggests the freedmen may have been replaced during or just after the Civil war. It is described in various threads on this site.

the only slave raiders were african tribes in the African slave trade. Non africans normally were killed by tribes if they tried to do so themselves.

Irish slave ? Complete and utter nonsense. There was no such thing as " Irish Slaves ". And who says so ? The Irish themselves. However there where Irish Slave Holders in the American Colonies.

The historical focus on slaves from Africa overlooked Irish slaves until recent years when rediscovery of their existence lit up corners of the internet and became a meme.
The only problem: it was not true. Irish migrants experienced indentured servitude, a form of bonded labour, but not perpetual slavery based on race. The notion of Irish slaves is disinformation spread online by white supremacists, mostly outside Ireland, to puncture black people’s anger over slavery.

www.theguardian.com...

That article is based on research from Trinity College Dublin. That's in Ireland by the way.

If we start handing out cash to blsck people just for being born, there's going to be a wave of violence unlike anything we've seen in a hundred years.

I've never had a slave, nobody I've ever met has ever been a slave. Steal from me to pay someone else for no reason?

Idiots.

At some point, whites were doing the buying. Hypothetically, they could have exercised selection.

One basis of the claim is that the country you live in was partially built on slave profits.

I personally don't think anything will come of it.

5million? Ridiculous.

The UN is a toothless tiger anyway.
