The Grey (2011): Discussion.

I watched this movie again the other day, and each time my sympathies change.

This time I'm cheering for the wolves.

Because the whole time they were just trying to keep the male humans from their lair, or home.

The hero of the movie is actually an idiot.

Mmm ... that may be a bit harsh, but for the sake of argument.

The humans are encroaching on their territory.

I suppose like the audience at a first viewing.
These humans are just trying to get to safety.

But from the wolves' perspective - why are these killers coming towards our den?

It's actually a tragic misunderstanding.

The question is, since the human protagonists essentially abseil down a gorge, how do the wolves get up and down?

I believe we have been using other earthly beings as a means for video production.
I imagine that could be cause for ethical concerns.
But they have never voices any concerns.
So muck it!

The theme of karma is not too below the surface.

The protagonist was hired by an oil company to shoot wolves.

Whether they have "families" like the humans is debatable, but they clearly have no reason to trust humans.

In the wilderness - our reputation precedes us.

...and besides, it's not like the wolves are vegan or vegetarian or anything - they are carnivorous predators just like the good-guy humans. You can prise that man-flesh out of their cold dead paws. mmmm.

At a first viewing indeed, the wolf attacks could be seen as simply predatory.

Although eventually, my meaning is that the wolves would have left them alone, if they didn't go plodding towards their den.
