No. I'm a realist.

Me too that causes a severe lack of imagination

Sometimes I wonder if there aren't already people who have some type of electronics in their brains they have connected to the internet that helps them read and write faster than a normal person.

If you played Cyberpunk 2077 on any of the gaming platforms, or PC, it would really dovetail with a lot of this as in the game you can find doctors to augment you with real skin and cybernetic parts. I used to be pretty tech phobic when it came to replacing certain body parts but if that reality and level of tech could be achieved in my lifetime, it would make dying almost a thing of the past. Of course once your brain starts to decay or your brain stops really working then you’re screwed but still. It’s an interesting and hopeful future, so long as you don’t have to keep paying for the service packs and or upgrades like they have with a lot of video games, or subscriptions.

Sorry sir, you can’t walk until your credit card on file is working. Your “I can walk” subscription is canceled until a new card is on file. a reply to: SprocketUK

I'm thinking slapping these on corpses of recently deceased, shoving an additional probe which will operate as the programming, VOILA! Zombie army. We can reuse death row inmates in a commercialized sport of gladiator. "You saw them die, now watch them die again and wager to see who will be king of the undead !"

The trick is procuring the bodies as there are laws on the sale of human parts. But if the family can work out a donation/waiver contract to get around it surely we can call the walking fighting corpses legally employed under temporary contract. Family acts as power of attorney and the wages of the deceased shall be donated in a tax free gift.

Bodies are dead, so I suspect we can only arrange fights for the first week as they stink up.

This medical breakthrough has inspired me to create a work of wicked fiction!

Again they have not cured a disease, they have chosen to ignore stem cell injections into a damaged area, for placing high tech in, which will require indefinite maintenance.

Not The Beginning (it all started a long time ago, they already had working prototypes, along different research lines, in the early 2000s if not earlier), rather it is The Misleading Red Herring, for everything is already injected and this kind of "news" serves the purpose of making it look as if neuromodulation were so far gross, primitive.

A fake VR paradise is coming.

The implications of that are scary frightening ....
Electrodes in your brain.
What could go wrong , right ?
"Terminate 'em ."

Pretty much every scientific advancement could have negative repercussions.

Technology is always touted as being beneficial when first introduced. Always. Then - as per human nature - it is twisted to something evil; generally either pornography or being used destructively, like to kill people in some way (militarily or otherwise).

Ultimately, this will be no different.

Am I a cynic?

No. I'm a realist.
:

Pornography is evil? I get things like genocide, slavery etc, but erotic images? Seems prudish to call it evil.

I have to tell you, I grew up with my dad who was in the medical supply business and we had a super strong TENS machine that could almost make a paralyzed person walk! Crazy

If the man can now walk again this has to be a good thing.

Cue the doom porn brigade, religious sorts, and naysayers that will be afraid of the technology.

Yeah I can't wait until the first upgrades are available for people who just want faster reflexes or the ability to punch through a car

Then you will see the real doom mongers coming out of the wood work

It's just another tool SprocketUK.

The intent and purpose to which it is set will donate benevolence or malevolence.

Same as the majority of any other technology we have devised.

This is how it starts, in a few years it will by like a William Gibson novel out there.

and if we are unlucky it ends with mass adoption of hackable brain chips..
