Wagner chief offered to give Russian troop locations to Ukraine, leak says

In late January, with his mercenary forces dying by the thousands in a fight for the ruined city of Bakhmut, Wagner Group owner Yevgeniy Prigozhin made Ukraine an extraordinary offer.

Prigozhin said that if Ukraine’s commanders withdrew their soldiers from the area around Bakhmut, he would give Kyiv information on Russian troop positions, which Ukraine could use to attack them. Prigozhin conveyed the proposal to his contacts in Ukraine’s military intelligence directorate, with whom he has maintained secret communications during the course of the war, according to previously unreported U.S. intelligence documents leaked on the group-chat platform Discord.

This came from the US intelligence DISCORD leaks. We had intel that Prigozhin actually offered up Russian positions in exchange for control of Bakhmut. If this is true, it would appear Prigozhin understands that his life depends on his victory over Bakhmut. If his forces don't win Bakhmut, he is as good as dead. And this allegedly motivated him to commit treason against Russia.

The leaked document does not make clear which Russian troop positions Prigozhin offered to disclose.

Two Ukrainian officials confirmed that Prigozhin has spoken several times to the Ukrainian intelligence directorate, known as HUR. One official said that Prigozhin extended the offer regarding Bakhmut more than once, but that Kyiv rejected it because officials don’t trust Prigozhin and thought his proposals could have been disingenuous.

A U.S. official also cautioned that there are similar doubts in Washington about Prigozhin’s intentions. The Ukrainian and U.S. officials spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive information.

That's very interesting, isn't it?

Was this some plan that Putin was in on, and they were scheming to give false locations; or was Prigozhin truly trying to trade away Russian lives for personal glory?

I guess we'll have to wait for Putin's eventual reaction when Prigozhin is allowed back home.

It would obviously be fantastic if it were true, but wouldn't it be advantageous to float these "leaks" to grow discontent between the Russian regulars and the Wagner Group? Not to mention don't you think Western intelligence has a pretty could idea of where the Russian troops are? I could see it as a possible ruse by the Russians if it is true.

Respectfully the only way Prigozhin returns to Russia, and avoids a vacation in Siberia or worse, is by hanging on to the territory Putin wants, and that is only possible in concert with the regular Russian forces. Wagner is only there to bleed Ukrainian forces and absorb punishment away from the regular military till the offensive, as those losses are more skilled troops with stronger ties to Mother Russia. In January the UK estimated 50,000 Wagner troops in country, one would think it would be significantly less, 3 1/2 months later especially since lots are in Bahkmut where heavy fighting is taking place. Regular Russian troops are supposedly approaching 180,000

When the time comes, Prigozhin likely has an escape plan and his troops will be left to be overrun.

Oh dear, if true, Prigozhin has just signed his own death warrant.
Russia never forgets their traitors no matter how long it takes.

I don't believe much from this kinda of propaganda coming out these last few months, they trying to kill Prigozhin from the inside , that is just my opinion.

It's like weeks back Prigozhin and the main guy(ginger with beard) from "War Gonzo" sit on a table and complain about the Russian government and weapon supply,don't think Putin/Kremlin/Duma would allow them to do it, to be honest.

So much misinformation these days, it's hard sometimes to believe what is real and what is not.

Given the losses his units were / are taking and his repeated complaints about not receiving ammunition from the Russian MOD I believe it's possible he would make such an offer , but given his propensity for lying who would trust any information he had to offer.

yea i think this is some planted disinformation by somebody to paint a target on prigozhin back.
add this to the bitchin and moaning he's been doing very publicly, and i would imagine he's on quite a few sh@@ lists in the motherland.

good thing he knows how to operate in the shadowy world of the mercenary, he stands a much better chance of survival than others that have wound up on one or more of those lists. much less likely to get some special seasoning in his breakfast, or take 1st place for patio swan diving to the street.

now two in the back of the head on the battlefield by some untrained convict or some eager wannabe new leader of wagner is not out of the question. best thing he could do is surrender and then tell Ukraine all the dirt.
