I obviously wasn't paying enough attention just read that China considers all of the Taiwan Strait their territorial waters. Yea, thats not gonna happen. It's no different than when Soviet ships visited allied Cuba, Ask Taiwan if the US Navy and any other nation can transverse the strait.

US warship sails through the Taiwan Strait days after China drills....flying another flag under the Stars and Stripes and Navy flags...

A US warship sailed through the waters separating Taiwan and mainland China, the US Navy said, days after Beijing staged war games around the self-ruled island.

Led by the United States, multiple Western navies regularly conduct "freedom of navigation operations" to assert the international status of regional waterways such as the Taiwan Strait and the South China Sea.

The USS Milius guided-missile destroyer "conducted a routine Taiwan Strait transit April 16 (local time) through waters where high-seas freedoms of navigation and overflight apply in accordance with international law", the US Navy said in a statement.

"The ship transited through a corridor in the Strait that is beyond the territorial sea of any coastal State."

This was the first such US operation through the waterway since January.

The US 7th Fleet shared images Monday on Twitter of crew looking out into the strait, one of the most crucial waterways in the world for international shipping.

China said on Monday it had tracked a US warship through the Taiwan Strait, adding that the United States had "hyped up" the transit.

Colonel Shi Yi, a Chinese military spokesman, said troops in the area "remain on a high level of alert at all times and will resolutely defend national sovereignty and security as well as regional peace and stability".

China claims Taiwan as its territory and has vowed to bring the island under its control one day. It also claims the entire Taiwan Strait as its territorial waters.

Taiwan's defense ministry said on Monday that during the vessel's transit, its military had "closely monitored the dynamics in our surrounding sea and airspace, and the situation was normal."

So if China were to sail a destroyer into the gulf of Mexico we would all be okay with this?

Because that's basically the equivalent of what the American military is doing and expecting from China. We are sailing within 100 miles of mainland China...

Just more consent manufacturing from the MIC to condition the masses to think China are the bad guys.

An economic rival yes.
A threat to our way of life no.

Don't let them fool you into thinking people on the other side of the planet are more of a threat than the bloodthirsty war criminals running our government.

Respectfully I try and take everything on a case by case basis and judge by recent events. For example, send a "weather balloon" to float and loiter over our nuclear missile sites, I can get behind we will sail our Navy wherever the "F" we want to sail our Navy. All the while Im skeptical AF of our current leaders.

Ask the people in Xinjiang how that economic rivalry is working out.

But China wouldn’t do that, because they’re above board in geopolitical issues. It’s only the US that provokes, everyone else are saints.

There’s just the low hanging fruit from a quick search.

But yea, only the US plays in other people’s back yard.

Right, however, the US Navy insures Freedom of Navigation for all Nations and the only Country to do so.

When china gets a blue water navy, it will only be for china and chinese interest.

That's the difference between the US and the world, our communities are made up of the very peoples of the world.

I guess my point being is, sailing thru the straight wasn't to spy.

The Russians used to base ships temporarily in Cuba, and no one even noticed. China sails ships around military exercises in Hawaii and it barely gets mentioned anymore. The Liaoning battle group has operated around Guam and barely got mentioned.

Meanwhile balloons float uncontested across the CONUS.

I'll float across your shore when I want to

Yup, and China has benefited greatly from our navy keeping the world waters open.

China on the other hand creates islands so they can expand their territorial waters.

People just like to play contrarian and side with anyone who counters US power. I’m sure the grass is greener under the CCP and away from the mean ol’ Americans.

It's international waters. So yeah. Maybe they can come and visit the USA and learn what freedom is about.

Nope, when the 2 biggest face off it's never over, till it goes hot, or there is a détente. Generally, there isn't going to be a thawing of the relationship or détente when one or both sides have questionable leadership. Would you trust Xi or Biden?

So grade China's and America's current leadership, and ask yourself your question again

Congrats on being turned into a pro-China mouthpiece because you've been tricked by communists into thinking it's "cool" to hate your own country.

We do messed up stuff for sure, but sailing in international waters is not one of them.

Think for yourself. Stop letting communists do it for you.
