Lifevac or deChocker?

Are these devices any good?

I'm not sure which to get , or even if it's good to get at all. The lifeVac also suggest you first try backslaps and the Heimlich manouver.
Which sort of defeats the purpose then, as I'd like to avoid having to try to use the Heimlich manouver.

Any ideas ?

We have the dechoker for our kids. In theory, it should work. I know that it brings me comfort. Never had to use it so I can’t say it works or not.
