And I'm from this area, This is insane. I can't believe people in the city are letting this happen. I think Mike Jordan has got his house up for sale also.

I was really hoping for another UFO incident, but I think the homeless should be trucked over to the mayor's house (ie the people of Chicago's house) and allowed to live there for awhile. I bet the Mayor Betelgeuse would be pretty quick in solving the "Homeless Crises" they are having in the city.

Its only going to take take one big incident to spark something off there, not a good situation at all. I am curious if once the weather gets warmer do they stay there or do they move on. Does this become a permanent housing facility?

Jordan has been trying to sell his house for several years and is having a difficult time of it do to the large price tag and the customization he had. Not many people want to see a giant metal gate with 23 and his logo on it when they first get home. I don't think it has been occupied for quite awhile.

Yes, his asking price is fairly high also. I worked there downtown after graduating from high school. At the time it was fairly safe to walk the streets at night. I actually worked at the Bismark Hotel ( it now has changed its name ) and the homeless would come in and we would just not wait on them at the bar.

get a warehouse and give them somewhere to sleep and feed them

# sake its not that hard
if the airport doesnt want them there
pay money to the Chicago state and have them moved to a different location

We need to forcibly remove them from the streets and institutionalize them for mental health and drug addiction.

The problem with hitting rock bottom is that there needs to be rocks. You line it with pillows and there's no reason to help yourself. Rock bottom needs to be a nasty place so the people that wind up there have a incentive to improve themselves.

If a drug user gets 90 days in solitary everytime they get caught they either will stay cold turkey, kill themselves, or get the hell out of Dodge. Either way they are no longer your problem.

If the homeless find themselves in a poor house with no possessions they'll figure out quickly what they need to do to get out and stay out of it.

And so on.

There's a big difference between a handout and a hand up and both political parties use it to their advantage.
People tend to think with their heart or their mind; employing both when looking for solutions would be more advantageous, IMO.

Wow
It’s a shame that this guy Lopez isn’t the Chicago mayor.
He sounds like something you don’t see very often, a Democrat with intelligence.

That may include taking what is yours or your neighbors, or your ageing parents.

Still a good solution?

You make life difficult for the destitute and they will surprise you with their desperate actions.

You can turn your back on a person, never turn your back on a drug.

I agree that some people need to hit rock bottom. However, I think we as society can speed up that process.

I rather the money we spend on jailing these folks be put towards rehab and mental health. Sure, at some point, some folks are beyond help but I think we can make an effort to help these folks.

Where I agree with tough love is not tolerating them loitering, tent camps, etc. Pack that sh!t up and move then out while at the same time offering real assistance. If they don't want the help, then bring in the paddy wagon.

The City's 37 shelters...many quite large...are being occupied mostly by migrants who entered at the US-Mex border.

They displaced homeless U.S. citizens...who end up in little tent cities in parks, under expressways, at Ohare Airport, and other public locations.

I drive into Chicago 3 to 4 times a week. It's amazing how the "homeless" live, compared to motels filled with migrants, along with free food deliveries they receive. (Ukrainians get lots of banquet food. Yum!)

Meanwhile Biden and GOP seem to agree much more on Ukraine than Ohio or the immigration issue shameful.

Homeless living in Chicago Ohare isn't something new. Walk around outside security and you will find very few seats and they ones that are around are not comfortable for sleeping or long-term seating.

To all of you who are saying the homeless are living too good of lives - you are cruel heartless people who are just plain wrong.

Go into any homeless shelter in the Chicago area - you will find it's safer and cleaner on the streets.
Any one of you would choose to sleep in Ohare over the so called housing help. And Ohare isn't a comfy place to sleep. The only thing it provides is shelter from the elements, a place to use the bathroom and it's relatively safe. Other than that, it's a cold hard floor with blaring lights. It's not lined with pillows.

The mentally ill are there because they are ill most likely from some biological condition. The addicts can not will themselves off drugs they need detox and support to stay clean.
