Yeah, supreme click-bait!!

Keanu Reeves, love him, hate him, or you can be a heretic like me and be ambivalent, but we all know the Matrix movie franchise, some of us older people remember watching Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure (both of them!) in the movie theater, and you may even be on tenterhooks for John Wick 4 (sounds cool and, yes, I will buy it on Blu-ray because I have the others already).

But it never grows old: Keanu Reeves saves the day!

Now, for something completely different!

The newly discovered natural product group of keanumycins in bacteria works effectively against the plant pest Botrytis cinerea, which triggers gray mold rot and causes immense harvest losses every year. But the active ingredient also inhibits fungi that are dangerous to humans, such as Candida albicans. According to previous studies, it is harmless to plant and human cells.

Keanumycins could therefore be an environmentally friendly alternative to chemical pesticides, but they could also offer an alternative in the fight against resistant fungi.

Phys.org, Feb 6, 2023: Keanu Reeves, the molecule: New active ingredient from bacteria could protect plants.

The scientists who discovered this family of molecules (pseudomonafs) in bacteria had the privilege of naming the A, B, C variants and apparently chose one of our own human actors known for being a superhero as the namesake!!

The article explains the technical details in that the bacteria generates lipopeptides (fat. We use fat to make soap. Like in Boy Scouts…) which wipes out harmful bacteria and fungi but is nontoxic to both plants and animals.

If it scales up, we can get rid of some of nasty chemicals we use to treat our plants.

In other words, Keanu Reeves saves the day, again!!

Now where is my copy of Constantine??

(cool Matrix sunglasses!!)

Another bit of fantastic science news...

that will be bought and then actively suppressed by Bayer-Monsanto in favor of some periodic table mashup that spawns expensive cancers or long lasting anal cysts.

edit: Keanu was a supe? I remember the ONE and Constantine... and Bill, but as far as I know, no DC or MCU action? Is Baba Jabba (or whatever the character from the gun dance flicks is called) considered a super hero? Doesn't that traditionally consist of capes and long underwear?

Baba yaga is a cryptid, known in other places as a hag or cailleach. Characterized as being a deranged granny who may or may not eat children to sustain her otherworldly talents.

Ah. Thanks.

Isn't there also a mobile hut involved with her? My Balkan-Russian folklore comes from DnD, Witcher or Fritz Lieber stories.

Doesn't she also fly around in a giant mortar and pestle? a reply to: TzarChasm

And I was thinking of My Own Private Idaho!!

And he did jump out of a plane without a parachute… which could be considered flying around…

Aren't industrial farming soils completely devoid of any life at this point? I think the first step should be to bring our soils back to health and I agree stop using chemicals. Good news about new ways to keep our environment and ourselves healthier. The future may look a little brighter for those generations coming up.

The answer to that is beyond me.

I am a convert to vertical hydroponic farming (no soil). I have read of a phosphorus shortage and possible issues with fertilizer amounts but nothing about soil health itself.

Anyone have any insights??

Things like this are exactly why I think the NWO/WEF/Globalists etc... Are shortsighted.

They think that if they own all the land, it will magically grow crops when they so wish.

They pay little attention to the amount of damage they have done through Monsanto ET Al.

If they do manage to get rid of us lower classes, they're probably going to starve anyway.

Farming is learnt through generations of farmers.

Damn the corporate machine.

As Baddogma said, if you create a molecular adjunct of a naturally occurring biome strain then you are cheapening the whole of nature and man.

But… you keep it natural the whole way then you don’t fill the soil with chemicals.

Let’s face it, natural bacteria versus bugs… uh, while I don’t see anything wrong with eating bugs, it is only when they are naturally occurring! Imagine a bug injected with all the crap they inject into cows, chickens, and pigs, but now in bugs “to make them robust enough to farm”??

I think the problem is the over dependence upon chemicals instead of focusing upon holistic styles of farming. So the OP is not that scary but to pause and think, really think, about what you are eating is the scary part!

The best you can do is to make informed choices with what you have available (I still eat non-organic veggies and mass produced milk because I am too poor to only eat organic everything). But I also choose not to eat fast “food” at the rates of my fellow Mericans!

I am aware at least…
