If your mind lives long enough, you'll be ready.

There are plenty of times I feel ready now just knowing what I know about the patterns I see at work in the work.

But the brain will not out-live 120 years. PERIOD
They can do whatever they want, but it is the brain that can not live here on Earth for more then 120 years.
Now, being out in outerspace would be something to look into though.

What's the limiting factor on brain longevity?

Hmm, now that is a hard one, ever remember when you were a child and a day seemed so very long, how a week felt like a month and a month was like forever.

Well back then you had probably more than twice as many brain cell's as you do now.

Your brain was still forming, new neural pathways were being mapped out and sometimes discarded as those that were used more often were the ones that became more fixed and your brain cells' also operated much faster than they do as an adult.

But that is not to say that children are more intelligent as we know that is not true, they are forming.

Once you age even though you have lost about half of those brain cells once your brain reached maturity like any cell in your body the brain cells age and die, they have to be replaced and as we age our cell's build up toxin's that mitosis will not get rid of, eventually the rate of cell death exceeds the rate of cell renewal and that is when we are really in trouble (physically speaking) (and of course barring diseases and other degenerative illness etc).

Your brain need's a healthy body to feed it, it uses so much of your body's energy that in reality your body is there to feed your brain but your brain is not alone in what makes you a human being.

It turns out that after the brain and spine the heart and the stomach have the most complex nerves in the human body, people whom have received heart transplants (As well as some other organ's) have often noted personality changes, sometimes these changes have turned them into a new version of the person whose organ they have received.

So you see YOU are not your brain but rather the entire organism of your body (and more likely your soul but that is getting into religion) with memory's and personality trait's existing in other parts of your being than just your brain.

But back to the cell's, the age and die like any other in your body.

It is doubtful that even fixing endron's, cleaning out oxidised toxins in the cell's etc will truly rejuvenate.

While they may extend life it won't be indefinite, illness will eventually catch up and anyway if the cost of not dying is to forget your earliest memory's including entire lifetimes, loves and losses and what makes us who we are sacrificed for the sake of another day in this world?.

Why would anyone really want that, yes longer healthier life fine we all could do with some of that but at what cost when it will be the very worst of humanity not it's best that will be the first to get this, the oligarch's, the elite, the rich and self entitled and not the artists, the great thinkers, the inventors and even for those if and when they ever get it eventually the wellspring from which they draw there brilliance will run dry.

No for me the most important thing is the life of our species, then once that is secured seeking after these vanity's will be fine especially when it can be shared.

Though I see the negative side of it there are positives, the search will lead to new cures and profound discovery's that may help generations to come.

Those few deluded souls though that believe this is the last generation that shall see death are very mistaken.

Imagine if the caterpillar was never allowed to become the butterfly.

End of the species.

It seems reverse aging would only be a good thing for those who didn't already have serious health issues and don't mind the extreme crazy society is turning into.

When you realize as an elderly citizen you are public enemy # one to government, and can't identify the
next to you as a man, woman or repurposed grapefruit, a meet-and-greet in the hereafter begins to seem like more of an opportunity to explore new horizons.

The day they can grow new vital organs in a lab will to couple with life extension will be the real game changer, IMO.

The planet is being depopulated. No one is getting access to this unless they're an elite.

If it were mainstreamed and everyone could live twice as long there’d need to be half as many people on the planet to maintain our current resource consumption limits and sustain our lifestyles. Or else things might get pretty ugly. But there’s nothing currently happening that might half the global population, is there?

No!, the planet is far from overpopulated despite the propaganda, everyone living in a city thinks it is overpopulated because they chose to live with other people or were born in that environment but the vast majority of the planet is actually empty of humans.
WE are also not that big?.
thecompartments.uk...

Areas that can be exploited for everything from habitation to industry to agriculture include underground city's, mega sky scrapers, under and on top of the ocean's and of course as our technology advances eventually even the sky and of course the moon.

But right now there is ample room for over a hundred and twenty billion souls should our race ever grow that much BUT our current consumerism is a problem as it is geared around non recycling products such as plastics.

It was only yesterday figuratively speaking (about 40 or so years ago now) that many chocolate bars, packets of crisp's and biscuit's changed to plastic packaging, it was about the same time that recyclable and re-usable glass bottles were replaced with plastic packaging as well for everything from milk and fizzy drinks to food sauces while old petrol cans made of steel were replaced with plastic ones.

Our love affair with plastic has to stop, we need to use it only were it is necessary and not as a throw away cheap and every polluting environmental poison.

Likewise the private sector is NOT efficient at performing public works and only works for it's own short term profit so governments have to step back up like they did after the second world war and do what is necessary not only in there own nations but on a global scale AND NOT TO PAY PRIVATE COMPANYS THAT MONEY to set up the infrastructure our planet need's.

We need to learn to share resources and act more cooperatively with other nations and harvest those resources not for the profit of a few crooked elite that want to cull the rest of us but for the interests of the planet as a whole.

Siberia if we were at peace with Russia has the makings of a future bread basket to put the 'corporate' destroyed grain belt of America to shame and that grain belt in the US can be reinvigorated as well with proper water management and environmental management.

The Pampas of Argentina also has great promise as does much of South Africa except for there crooked and corrupt government as there is plenty of arable land there and huge swaths of empty space.

Even China is not overpopulated but it is badly mismanaged, they are in the process of trying to control water sources in the Himalaya's for there own greedy selfish reasons and starving India and Bangladesh of the source of there rivers the main source of there fresh water, likewise the Euphrates is drying up just like the prophecy about the end times in the bible but it is actually doing so because the Turk's are damming it and using the water for there own agriculture and robbing the ancient source of water from the Syrians and the Iraq's in the process.

There is ample resource but petty governments, evil men and the worst of all corporate greed are severely mismanaging it, squandering the inheritance of the human race on there own personal selfish interests and creating a downfall that will lead to a new dark ages.

Every civilization end's and why should ours be any different, the sad thing is though we don't have to as we have the knowledge, the ability and the resources (Currently) to do something about it but we just don't have the political will and have a bunch of morons that talk big but only fill there own pockets when in power even in our western governments.

I'd take 120 years in a body that doesn't feel decrepit though.

viagra is being studied now and it seems to extend lifespan

i guess according to the journal of sexual medicine.

it's popular use was just a side effect of the medicine which was prescribed for the heart in the first place.

I can think of a reason why this sort of thing would be allowed to the underclass.

Think about it. How many years do we senesce into a loss of functionality where we are basically useless eaters? How many years does it take to replace us with fresh bodies who can do the things we no longer can? How many resources are spent in the meantime on supporting an otherwise useless eater no matter how you slice it?

But ...

If the brain is hard-coded to more or less shut off after a finite period but they can keep the body itself useful and youthful ... then we can remain functional to service them all the years of our lives. No more useless eaters, or limited years of useless eater-hood. You have a functioning serf who can be made to work up until the day they drop.

The technology to slow death has been with for at least 20 plus years. They are working towards ending death and the technology is there to do it. Problem is if nobody dies we don’t have enough room to sustain the exponential population growth you will see without aging.

Depopulation and sterilization. I’ve heard that somewhere.

A good person would say it’s time to expand to the stars with that technology we already have to “take ET home”.

But nope. The plane is to sterilize everyone but the select few and force depopulation while keeping these discoveries to the elite.

How do you get everyone to agree? Not money, the promise of eternal life.

I’m not talking about propaganda, but my first hand experience travelling much of the world at the end of of last century. I don’t expect things to have improved since then. On the contrary.

Whatever stats etc may say I’ve seen utter degradation caused by societies growing way beyond their means. Without changes it’s a very bleak picture for the future on planet Earth. Mankind must learn to be responsible for their procreation, or go the way of all life forms that exhaust their ecosystem.

If I were an advanced alien life form considering first contact with humans, then demonstrating this responsibility in all corners of society in all nations would be the criteria that needed to be met before contact could happen.

Only education, opportunities for a decent lifestyle and reward for conforming to our joint responsibility can achieve this imo. ‘Conforming’ is not a word I enjoy using, but in all honesty it best describes my meaning and is in a good cause. Of course any conforming must be cooperative and at each person’s discretion. Achieving it through force would only invite a dark future and perhaps even attract extra terrestrial interest that we’d come to regret.

So while you make many good points I still see, through experience, not here say, that overpopulation is the fundamental problem, or at least the key to fixing many other problems. That’s just my opinion and maybe stats and data have greater authority. But for each of us the greatest authority is what we see with our own eyes.

We seriously need to speed up the aging process for the super rich elites, not slow it down or reverse it! The sooner the real useless control freak eaters of the world are gone the better! 😵💀

Irresponsible procreation and overpopulation are not always the same though. Someone who processes outside the framework of cultural support is procreating irresponsibly, but how and why that occurs could be for many reasons of which total, global finite resources is just one possibility and remote at that.

They have even started doing testing on primates, and learned they can dose the eye directly and reverse aging of the eyes.

Can you point me to where you read this part? I couldn't find it...

I'm very interested, as I am currently researching boosting my own stem cell production for this very purpose (failing eyesight)...

Never mind, I found it (I need to learn how to read better)...

Now to try to find additional resources on how I might be able to access such tech, either directly, or how to reproduce the technique via alternative/natural means.
