How is it meaningful when everyone knows the legislation wouldn't make it past the Senate or the President? For that matter, does Congress even have the authority to abolish an Executive Branch agency?

You read what I posted that is how. The people will demand it from all sides when they learn about it. You don't want to be the "one" standing in the way of that when the poop hits the fan. It will gather a life of it's own if the media just report, but we know they will fight for their overlords tooth and nail until the pay check dries up for them.

"Theoretically" this should make life better for most taxpayers.

Right now most people who work for a living are paying taxes on their income. But there are a whole lot of people who work for cash and pay no taxes at all. Despite this fact, most of these untaxed income earners take from the system they refuse to support. That inequity results in a greater burden put on taxpayers and more free stuff for the rest.

By eliminating income tax and instead using a consumption tax the taxes are paid by anyone who purchases anything, regardless of where the money came from. In theory, if the total tax revenue remains the same, this should reduce the tax burden on workers presently paying income tax and increase the tax burden on those who pay no income tax. Illegal immigrants would would pay the same as everyone else. Unfortunately, that would just make democrats increase the amount of free stuff given to the illegals - at the expense of everyone else, just like they do now.

In the end, knowing how the numbers will be manipulated, I would be surprised if anyone actually came out ahead besides government and newly minted democrat voters.

With the IRS cast to the winds, HOW will the Federal Govt collect this consumption tax?

The vote to abolish the IRS is not going to happen anytime soon... but it is growing legs and so is term limits for congress because people have had just about all they can take of this crazy insane government and are fed up with it.. So maybe in the future it will happen once civil unrest keeps getting worse and worse in this country.

I don't think a consumption tax is best as it seems like it could be complicated and gamed. I'd like to see a flat tax of like 5 to 10% and be done with it. But either option is better than the current fustercluck.

5 to 10% for all and be done with it.

Just so we are all on the same page.

"Consumption Tax" is another word for "Sales Tax".

Consumption/Sales Taxes are regressive, that is, the lower your income the higher percentage of your income you pay. Assume a 10% tax. Folks who live pay-check to pay-check will pay 10%. Gazillionaires will pay 0.0000000000001%.

Income taxes are 'supposed' to be the opposite, but they've added so many loopholes that the super rich gets away with little or no tax at all. A consumption tax will NOT fix this problem.

You would need a nationwide 15% sales tax at least to feed the fed. What do they take in 550 billion a year or so? I think I would prefer the sales tax to the income tax, of course what do you do about social security?
